Lots of rope

Postby greedoniz » May 6th, '10, 10:14

I am about to embark on the learning of Whit Haydns Mongolian pop knot routine as was wondering where the cheapest place for suitable rope is.

The rope needs to come in a good quantity as you use about 14 feet per performance and it needs to be easy to cut.

Any ideas?

Magic Box always used to be good for ropes, I bought a 100m reel off them a couple of years ago for a very good price.

....and to think Lady of Mystery doesnt even do rope magic.

Dunno why she'd need all that rope

Anyway thanks for the advice. I was wondering if there were any non-magic suppliers who do a suitable rope that may be cheap as cheap stuff

you can get it in red and black and I'll have you know Greedo that I know quite a few good tricks with a piece of rope.

You could try a windsurfing\sailing but I always found this not to be soft or flexible enough for what I wanted.

40 to 50p per metre is about the going rate for decent quality rope.

Davenports sell at this price but do red, green, blue and yellow apart from white. they sell in 10 metre lengths.

House of Magic in Stourbridge also do good quality rope in various colours and are in the Midlands as do kaymar Magic in Nuneaton. Both sell by the metre and also by the reel.

If you're considering coming along to the Leamington Day of Magic then I'll be lecturing on rope magic.

Your best bet will realistically be a magicshop - all climbing shops etc have good quality rope that shouldnt break!

If a climbing shop has the correct rope, then don't go to them for climbing supplies. You are looking for cotton rope or foam core rope. Unfortunatly I don't have a resource on your side of the pond. I used to sell a 300 foot spool of cotton rope for 23 dollars Canadian which I believe is 27 billion Pounds/Euros, or whatever it is you are using now.

Many years ago, based on a tip I read somewhere, I bought some ordinary rope from a hardware shop, soaked it in water, squeezed it out and let it dry. It came out really soft.
