This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcSxL8GUn-g Is the opening 10 minutes from James Burke's classic 1978 series Connections. While it's well worth watching in it's own right, look where he is in New York, and look at what the incoming airliner's call sign is.

Ah, Connections! The original (first) series is one of the best programmes ever made, in my opinion. Each episode is fascinating in its own right, and the entire series builds into a serious argument that's only really explained in the conclusion.

I keep hoping to see it repeated somewhere.

Yup, a truly astonishing piece of television. And he's right! That's the best thing. Not bad for a "mere" MA in Middle English!

Speaking of really amazing telly, I was at a friend's house last night and we found the final scene from Bronowski's Ascent of Man on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jl2w3xYFHQ I cried. Again. I couldn't help it. I really, REALLY f---ng hate Nazis.
