I just received my latest eBay acquisition, the Mystic Jigsaw Puzzle! It was such a bizarre idea I had to get my hands on it. Spent this morning putting it together.
It's basically a large picture of a gypsy fortune-teller, but there are four rectangular "holes" in the main picture. There are also eight mini-puzzles that can fit into any of the holes. Once you put it together, including filling in the holes as randomly as possible with four of the mini-puzzles, you can then read your fortune according to which four you selected and in what order.
It's not dated, but I estimate it's from the late 1920s to early 1930s. A strange object indeed. Should fit nicely into my "trashy fortune-telling rubbish" collection.
My fortune turned out to be: I will soon get a letter. In the medium term I'll take a short journey and enjoy a bit of luxury (which is true, as we're planning a weekend break next month). Eventually I'll be rich, but not for years yet. And I should beware travelling by train.
