Kreskin Beats Cancer!

Postby Barefoot Boy » Aug 25th, '10, 04:32

I am pleased to report that my hero, Kreskin, has been "totally cured" of the prostate cancer which he was diagnosed with back in March of 2009.

Best news I've heard all week!

Happy thoughts,
Paul Pacific

Great news!

I googled him and found:

George Joseph Kresge (born January 12, 1935), who had his name legally changed to The Amazing Kreskin, is a mentalist who became popular on North American television in the 1970s. He was inspired to become a mentalist by Lee Falk's famous comic strip Mandrake the Magician,[1] which features a crime-fighting stage magician.

It's true. And there is currently a film version of Mandrake in the offing.

though it seems to have production issues at present.

Believe it or not, my stage name, when I was working semi-pro at the tender age of 13 was 'Mandrake Junior'; I'd seen the cheesy late 70's film, Mandrake The Magician, and the 'Trevor Dorian' (I kid you not!) moniker that'd I'd previously deemed suitable was binned quick-smart.

When I left magic, at 17, my father took over my props, and worked as 'Mandrake The Magician' (both in the UK and Cyprus) pretty much up until his sad passing in 2008.

Great pedigree, the name Mandrake, y'know :D

Great to hear Kreskin is on the mend. He was one of my inspirations - and still is.

Glad he's well.

When I was in college, he came and performed at my school. After his performance, he met with the audience. I wormed my way to the front of the line. He noticed that I had two (!) broken arms (stupid skateboarding accident), so I asked him to autograph one. He pummeled my shoulder for what seemed like a minute and then signed ESPecially, Kreskin.

Wotta guy!
