http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2010/09/21/bbc-to-conjure-up-saturday-night-magic-show-115875-22577090/

Heard an article on Radio 5 live this evening and there's a wider story advertised on BBC 5 Live after 10.30 tonight.

Look interesting an well over due.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

I hate the way papers post little more than a headline and a lie. BBC press office release (with more details) here

"People who hail from Manchester cannot possibly be upper class and therefore should not use silly pretentious words"

What does the celebrity partner do?
Are they just there to cause tension, and make the trick go wrong, cus that would be rubbish?
Are they just there so people watch the show, because the beeb think people won't watch magic as it is?
There always has to be a twist.
Aren't I right in thinking, good magic is entertaining within itself.

I'm getting visions of Strictly-eske type "This is what happened during rehearsals this week" type clips before each act. I hope not

But if Paul and Alex are behind it, it might well be decent. I hope so :)

Plausible subtitles for the show?

"Box-Jumping with the stars"
"Strictly Come Sub-Trunking"
"I'm a celebrity, get me out of this Zig-Zag"

J ust had a thought. Lenny Henry's shouty opening will be what, 8 to 10 minutes..

between each act you get him clapping his hands and saying " That was bloody amazing I have no idea... "

plus introducing the special guests, and over long rehersal footage. I recon this will fill the 45 minute slot before doctor who, currently occupied by that wipeout thing, and bring on the wall... plus the judging, the recap, and teh long drawn out pauses....
there won't be that much actual performance time given to the magicians will there?
They wont do an act.. just a trick.

You know, i have a feeling that when this airs... we will probably all hate it.
not because it's bad telly, but because there just wont be enough magical content to slate out thirsts. :)

( See comments regarding Derrens specials for more proof of that)

and teh worst thing of all is, the formatt we see, will be put together by some media type, who doesnt know the first thing about magic. And will probably bear little or no resemblance to the proposal Alex and Paul punted in the initial meetings.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

On the other hand Talk Magic will be saturated by new magic enthusiasts & people trying to find out how they did it...

So that's something to cheer at least.

Whatever we think it will be - we will all be watching

I was rather hoping that it would be a talent type contest with some never before seen faces.
