adding a new persona to a stage/parlour act

OK

How can I work up standard magic effects like sponge bunnies but add in a really angry, possibly drunk persona?

I am thinking Bill Hicks at the height of his drinking and drugs days doing square circle, or linking rings...

Thoughts?

Watch smash seems like an obvious one.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

I think it is important to ensure there is some likeable or watchable aspect about the character, that it isn't just a one dimensional angry drunk character, otherwise the audience will soon turn off him, or be be intimidated by him.

+1
Even a "drunk" character needs depth of personality to make them watchable otherwise people would just take a seat and watch folks falling out of my local nightclub.

forget the anger...too hard to maintain unless you have good reason as to why its maintained...

I think angry could work, but you'd have to make him likeable and funny and that's not going to be easy. I think that Iain's idea of a loveable drunk is probabaly a better way to go about things.

I would say with an angry personna you would need an added element to make your audience want to watch.

With Bill Hicks the genuine anger was due to him trying to make a social or political point. To fake the anger as part of an act there needs to be an element of charm, humour or a foolishness to the character to make it entertaining to hate him.

The other side of the coin would be to purposefully have an act to turn the audience against you ala Tony Clifton. But even he had a comedic reasoning

Don't take too much notice, like several other recent threads this is just a wind-up.
