WHOOPS!!

The link I posted was reference Comments on a Student Forum regarding the Fool Us Show. Although I copied & sent the link at the right page, it seems to have gone back to the homepage.

To find the references, put Penn & Teller in the SEARCH BOX at the right hand side near the top, & you will see what I thought you would have seen at the start!

Here's the link again:

Wow! Thanks for the link. It's quite nice to see a fair amount of discussion and no-one's being "internety"

internety (v) - to be cynical and ruin people's fun behind a cloak of anonymity.

ABSOLUTELY!! which is why I posted it.............

It gives the topic a sense of perspective & proportion. Many "magicians" it seems, can only think like "magicians", & often REFUSE to see (or can't see!) things from a laymans viewpoint. I thought that many of the comments were quite enlightening!

I THINK the guy that did the Royal Flush trick either had slightly weighted cards or there were very minor notches in the edges of the cards that he could feel.

I am so going to start using 'weighted cards' as an explanation to card tricks from now on.

at least they assume "minor notches"
I often read "short card" to mean "about a centimetre" or "crimp" to mean "90 degrees"
no ever notices....

It's a well known fact that the black ink used to print cards is heavier than the red ink... or perhaps it's the other way round... :?

I'm a little ashamed to say that was my first thought when I saw it. "Wow! Maybe he's learnt the tiny weight of a club, spade, heart and diamond and multiplies it by touch and......."

Then on the second watch reality seeped in and I figured it out. But for a brief moment my brain grabbed the most illogical explanation possible. Which I thought was a big win for magic.

I found the Royal Flush trick weak to be honest. He was showing them the same thing 5 times, so of course they'll guess it. Also, he was slow with the last card and the camera caught it badly.

I have tried to get the hang of this in the past, so I can appreciate how tough it is to do it clean and consistently.

I thought the same.

Whilst there is no doubt that his level of skill is sky high, it was a poor choice of effect.

I really enjoyed Daniel Madison's performance.

Card magic is the area I have the least knowledge of so I am practically a lay person when it comes to working out card tricks. I might be able to work it out if I sat and watched the performance several times but why would I want to? It would ruin the beauty of it.

From a spectator viewpoint it is exactly the kind of thing all spectators wish they could do - Manipulate a winning poker hand and dream of going (ironically) to Vegas to win big with their near supernatural skills.

It's why Copperfield was so popular, he flew, who doesn't want to fly? Of them all though I liked Mathieu Bich the most, purely because he knew Penn and Teller would assume multiple decks and put "No" in the box.

Absolute genius!

I still think that Daniel Madison missed a fantastic opportunity by asking for complete silence without adding "...especially you Teller." on the end of it.

Summertime viewing figures are usually bad, warm sunny evenings, holidays, BBQs etc are all very attractive alternatives to TV.

Absolutely! but T.V. Execs do panic, when viewing figures drop. & many a good show has been axed for similar reasons.

I hope this doesn't happen, in this instance..........

All the best!

Your're right, regrettably few TV execs know their ace from their elbow when it comes to quality entertainment, all they see is bottom line viewing figures and therefore implied advertising revenue.
