Good pocket mentalism

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Heirloom is a great effect to have in your wallet and the incredible Between The Lines takes up very little space.

Thanks for the advice, but jeez - sorry to get yer goat, man! All I can say is that some of us have different views and interests.

Dirty Davey: I get where you're coming from and like the idea of the simplicity of business cards and pads o'paper, but ...

Part-Timer wrote: Performing is sometimes about the show. I could do quite a number of effects with just blank business cards, but a bit of visual variety does not necessarily go amiss.

That's exactly what I meant, cheers Part-Timer.

Dup: I've been practising with the sw*** and, oh my, it's like being back in primary school. I know it'll get better, but I'm not ready to perform with it yet.

Lord Freddie: I've looked at Heirloom and Between the Lines before. I think that both might have a place in my pocket at some point (though I'm a little concerned at the number of mentalists/magicians who have uncles who were gamblers). I suspect BTL might be a tad advanced for me at the moment, but it looks like a fantastic effect. One day, eh?

Once more, thanks to y'all. You're giving me a lot of good food for thought. I hope I get to finish thinking before CUPS takes hold!

Director's Cut is great and there are many ways to present the reveal.

There are two versions, one with general films - some old some newish - and there's the horror version.

You can present it as remote vision, a prediction, clairvoyance, a drawing duplication or as a magic trick.

I have both versions of Directors Cut and it's a brilliant set of cards with many uses. The accompanying DVDs and PDFs are superb.

Well worth the money and is something that astounds people.

Another big thumbs up for Director's Cut from me. More to carry than, say, Sanctum or one of Paul Brooks's offerings, but the set of cards is so small, I managed to lose my cards for about six weeks (admittedly with a holiday in the middle). Somehow they ended up underneath my keyboard.

Well, given the unanimous praise for Director's Cut, there's a very good chance that it'll be bought soon.

Thanks people, you're all brill!

Having previously had KK set up, Heirloom is so much better in terms of space and neatness, though I've trimmed the photo for it to be all snug. It's a good opportunity to try a mental card force a la Brown when asking them to imagine they are at that high stakes poker game, imagine them being dealt into a red pile... it's great fun.

I also have Thought Reader and You Know Who and Kioku. I have these in my wallet and forget about about them, although the knowledge at the back of my mind that they are there and can be used to create wonder is quite empowering, as Paul Brook states in his notes.

I've been researching your generous suggestions and have a shopping list prepared, but I was wondering about the different versions of Heirloom, esp. Heirloom Redux. Does anyone use one of the alternatives and if so what are the pros 'n' cons? I did a request for a review, but nobody's come through yet. Cheers!

Outlaw Effects' Kioku! It's awesome stuff and works well as a segue from my ESP card routines.
