I dont like things that looks like props in my wallet.

A few billets , a card for psy forces , and thats it.

Sign Language by Doug Dement. With limited fishing you can tell a complete stranger their star sign.
Dream Signs by Daniel Love does something similar, but is a more advanced technique and less certain. Both are propless.

Just received Kioku today and I must say it's ingenious.

Can't wait to follow up on some of your other suggestions.

Juxtapose By paul Brook. i am always prepared to perform this routine. I also like the mental voyage cards. Lexicology is really good.

Kioku is good but make ABSOLUTE sure you instruct your spectator what to do and that they are complying

I was not clear on my first few times and made a hash of it.Pick bright people also.

I know I sound like a stuck record (or perhaps a corrupted MP3), but why not do a palm reading?? You're supposed to be a master of the mind and the mysteries held therein. Which is going to demonstrate this best to the spectator - a palm reading where you reveal their life, their innermost secrets, and their personality traits, or pulling a piece of card or suchlike from your wallet and proceed to give them some convoluted instructions about what to look at?

I know real magic when I see it, and so do most people.

I think it depends upon your audience. If you do a few magical mentalism bits for friends and colleagues, a palm reading might not fit the bill.

There are also people who are dead set against doing readings, those whose performing characters wouldn't suit palmistry, and those who lack the confidence (or simply haven't yet learned).

Here is my short list;

Business Cards, with an effect printed right on them, and set up for the Out to lunch principal.

A double sided post it pad, For add a no and one ahead. See Richard Osterlind's work for more details.

One short and one long pencil with matching lead for pocket writing .

A double sided coin in a Larry Becker purse, with some additional coins for several effects.

Bip 2.0 Book.

If its something simple - I just have 2 sets of 5 esp cards (non gaffed) in my wallet - they are laminated (kind of) so they don't bend and buckle, but with a few simple ideas you can make these items go a LONG way.

As for other ideas, a custom printed business card is a MUST HAVE item, you can do tonnes with them (people have already mentioned tricks etc so I wont repeat), and what better way to give out your number, email etc AND as a souvenir of your awesome magic :D

I also have a pocket mentalism effect in the works which should see the light of day later in the year. It's in collaboration with a company reknowned for exquisite props and will be very dark in style!

Powerball 60 is a cool pocket effect using old lotto tickets.

Not to mention, a stack of business cards (maybe some of them have a few marks) is enough to do nearly anything at all.

I will also give a nod to Killer Elite Pro - though I use my own variation, it is a very cool effect and plays very well.

The above cards:

Animania
Symbolism
Test Conditions

are all available from your favorite dealer or get the package deal directly from Mental Voyage.

'Symbologic' by Hen Fetsch is a very strong piece, the straight forward matching of two sets of ESP cards; effective, easy to do and light on the pocket.

If you don't mind carrying around a special deck John Kennedy's 'Mind Power Deck' has gotten me strong reactions in the past, especially if being performed for two or three spectators simultaneously.

Of course some form of sw**i and an information gatherer like John Cornelius' 'Thought Transmitter' can come in handy too.
