Richard Wiseman Lecture

Postby Edantes » Mar 15th, '11, 20:43

Last night I attended a lecture at the Centre for Life in Newcasle city centre. It was part of the annual Science Festival, which is the first thing that struck me; it's nice to see people recognising psychology as a science.

The lecture itself was brilliant, Richard mixed magic and parapsychology in a way that was interesting to everyone in the room.

He's a genuinely funny bloke and that came through in his talk. He did a particularly funny bit about sleight of hand. Although it did involve him exposing to a room full of lay people what a french drop is. He performed the move then talked for a while about misdirection and then performed the move again without any misdirection - this got a bit of a laugh - but then he did it with the opposite of what he did orriginally, moving the hand with the coin in, leaving the empty hand still and staring down at the coin-hand - this got a roar of laughter and i was suprised that non-magic folk found this as amusing as they did!

I would urge anyone who gets a chance to go see him talk, he's captivating and enthralling as well as funny and entertaining.
