My 10k Run

Postby russpie » Apr 13th, '11, 11:31

Hi, cheeky I know considering i've never met any of you, however;

I'm attempting to run 10km on the 15th May to raise money for a local hospice which is very dear to my heart. I've never ran for fun or really for excercise, I am also carrying a couple of extra stone in weight so I ache all over from the training. If you can spare anything at all then i'd be very greatful if you could take the time to sponsor me for the run. The hospice has to raise £3.4m every year to stay open as it is only granted money to cover 81 days a year. The work they do is fantastic & I have had close experience of what they do.

Thanks for your time http://www.justgiving.com/Russ-Appleby

I'll send a few quid over after may 2nd. Until then I have £28 to last me! :)

I did a 10k run back in september http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic35373.php&highlight=10k

The best piece of advice I can give you is to get a funny audiobook. After never doing any running before, it's the only thing which got me through!

Thank you so much. It's proving harder than I thought to get people to part with their cash. I'm partial to Ricky Gervais so might stock up on some. Thanks for the advice.

I think you've already surpassed what I managed! I even asked the folks at TM to part with 50 pennies ( :evil: ) and that didn't happen :P

That's probably why I said I'd donate a few quid after may 2nd! At least then I can help contribute! Just bump the thread to remind me! ;)

Thanks so much. I did a practice run last night (different route) but 10k in an hour & 2 minutes. Apparently last year was the hottest day of the year so that'll be fun if it happens again.

Yeah I think my time was an hour and 4 minutes. It's bl00dy hard when you don't normally run, I'm sure you will agree! I think the person who cam in first did it in 28 minutes!
