Chris Beard: A Cuddly Interrogation

Postby Beardy » May 13th, '11, 23:17

Hey guys!

I had an idea for a routine a few weeks back, and tried it out last night to see if it worked. I love the idea, but the presentation didn't really work in my opinion. That isn't a problem though, as that is what these test runs are for! I now have a brand new presentation, completely different to this one, with a kicker at the end, which I shall keep hush hush for now, though a video shall make its way on here in due course!

Here is last night's one anyway. The audience wasn't big, as it was only an open mike night (about 15 people turned up), but I use open mike nights to test-run new material.

Anyways, here it is for your viewing pleasure, and do enjoy!

stand still. following you around the stage, and listening to what you are saying is mighty confusing. :)
I would also set the toys upstage, and then Id face the audience as the spectator picks the toy behind me.
if it relied on you seeing which toy they choose, in this video, its just very obvious. the guy was still there when you turned.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

It is a three to four minute routine at best Chris. If you're going to have something drop out of the toy, why not make it the receipt or instructions saying "this creature never gets picked".

And rather than any word - if you keep using toys, make it a name of someone they had a crush on at school and only ever told their toys. If you keep your back turned, you could ask them to pick it up and hug it. And maybe play on the psychometry way of thinking. You could also have something insdie it to let you know that it has been hugged.

Alternatively, get them to hug them all and mentally select one.

You could then hug each toy and start describing how you feel when you pick up their one.

No, the method does not rely on that. The pacing was just me being nervous - brand new routine after all.

Thanks for the ideas too. As I said, I've completely changed the presentation, but I like to keep this forum updated with what I'm doing!

Very nice presentation but I agree with dale on the staging of it, it would run a lot smoother.

Maybe also script the parts with the toys, I don't know if you were just nervous or if you just knew everyone watching but it came across as trying to get cringy laughs but I'm assuming it was the latter!

Am I right in thinking that you were using the D******er P**y to get the word he was thinking of? If so I really like the way you make use of Dual reality and put the emphasis on the selection of the toy rather than the word, its very nice.

Indeed. It didn't work, but that's why you test such things out! As I said, I have a brand new presentation which I can't wait to try out. And yes, method wise bang on, so thanks for the compliment there!

And Tomo, I'm not sure what you mean..... ;)

(love you baby ;) )

Haha no, in that case you would have lose your money! I have heard of that method before Colin! It is from Mr Tomo that the inspiration arose! Though Jon, if you could see the routine now...oh jeez...you'd jizz in your electronic pants...
