As everyone above has already said, concentrate on your performance and don't worry about the routine being too simple. Some of the best magic I've seen has been simple but performed brilliantly.

I met up with the retailer on Sunday and it wasn't what I expected, I'd been misinformed about what I would have to do. I talked through what I'd be doing at the festival and we decided on nine or so tricks that I'll be demoing and selling in between my shows on the day. They've asked me to go back this weekend to prove that I can demo these tricks well enough to work under the banner of this retailer (I don't know why I haven't been saying their name, let's just call them Bagicmox :P)

I'll let you know how this goes :)

Perform the effect as laid out in the instructions! Too many times I've seen dealer demo's where the dealer pulls out a set of sponge balls, or cups and balls and then performs incredible feats (that are not in the instructions) then the customer goes home, reads the instructions and feel ripped off (because in a sense they were). The new person doesn't yet have the tools to re-create what the dealer did, so the dealer in effect showed one thing and sold another, bait and switch.

By all means you can do the fancy stuff. But make sure the customer knows that what you are now doing is not covered in the instructions, that you are just showing what will eventually become possible once they have much more experience.

Yeah, I had the same idea. Like i agreed with the retailer, performing is about making you look good but demoing is about making the product look good.
