Hey guys

An effect I always wanted to find was the one whereby somebody cannot lift you after previously being able to.

I know this effect is one of those that is as old as the hills but it is something that I don't have.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Regards

:)

Love

Chris

I can't begin to imagine who devised the idea but I do believe it's how you are leaning.

You know those power balance bracelets that are on sale everywhere? It's along the same lines.

I'm sure someone will be able to do a better job thank I have to aid you! :D

Body Magic by John Fisher, unfortunately destroyed in a flood, is where I learnt it. I believe it is also fully explained in a booklet called Secrets of the Georgia Magnet, which used to be available through www.mreenterprises.co.uk.

It is all about a bit of a body shift at the right moment. Its a balance thing; no psychology involved.

Thanks! I'll look into that!

And I knew it wasn't psychology, I just didn't know the positioning ;)

Its definitely explained in Mysterio's Encyclopedia of Magic and Conjuring, probably available on Amazon. A grand title for a book admittedly.

Damn you Grimshaw and your ability to beat me to the post :P

I THINK its explained in an online "download now" eBook somewhere called "extreme body tricks" or something, it explains a few similar illusions, like how planking works, how to suspend yourself on a lamp-post and a few shrinking illusions (I could be mistaken though)

Shrinking illusions!?

Like shrinking of a person? I'd have placed that outside the realms of feasibility...

I knew you knew - but not everyone does.

The extreme body magic ebook is from Andrew Mayne, and contains some nice stuff. More mime than magic, but worth a look.

Chris, you've already done this.
I'd have been able to pick you up five years ago but I think I'd struggle these days ;)

Alternatively I could still easily "pick you up" these days

You should look into some ki aikido exercises. Ki tests as we like to call them, though it's not really a test...

There's an ok description here: http://bodymindandmodem.com/CoolKi/Unlift.html (though it's an exercise for unification of mind and body rather than a 'cool ki trick to really freak people out......')
If you've ever tried to lift one of your mates when they're drunk and don't want to be lifted, it's a similar idea...

Unbendable arm is fun too, and you can also have a line of people trying to push you over, slightly different exercise, but same principles...

If the ki stuff's all a bit out there, try http://www.aikidorepublic.com/aikiphysi ... sable-body

Feel free to drop me a PM if you want more information or a better explanation...

I saw Dynamo perform this trick on Magician Impossible, didn't reckon that much to it to be honest. The change in his body position was pretty obvious.

Dynamo leant forward. Most people do it by having someone lift them gripping the elbows. Then you just move your elbows slightly and the method is concealed.

Unfortunately I cannot do this effect, as I have yet to meet someone who can lift twenty stone initially.

To you in your position maybe, but not to the guy trying to lift you.
