Reactions to my Magic

Postby morrowsean » Aug 30th, '11, 20:26

Hi,
Last Weekend i had a night out with some friends down my local pub, pretty relaxed atmosphere, few drinks and laughs going on, i got talking to one of my friends asking me how my magics coming on. In the past i always felt a bit uncomfortable letting friends in on the fact that i was studying Magic. I always felt a bit embarrassed and awkward not knowing what their reactions would be. I performed Holy Moly by Jay sankey to him, and his reactions were probably the best ive ever had. He was so shocked, he just simply couldnt take it in. Then before i knew it i was Vanishing coins and doing a few cards tricks, everyone loved it, and it felt really good, i never want to lose that buzz i get from peoples reactions.

There's nothing like that feeling of seeing genuine amazement on a spectators face

Great feeling!

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

The best reaction for me is when they want to inspect the deck. Then you know you've performed real magic. :)

I was in a pub last week and saw a packet of brewery branded cards on the bar in near pristine condition, I started to play with them and as it was fairly quiet quickly rigged the deck to perform the X Ray routine.

A short time later someone noticed I was playing with the cards and asked what I was doing, I showed them the X Ray trick and they were speechless, I went on to do a variation for a group of people who had gathered round the pool table where I cut the deck into five small piles and gave them the remaining 15 or so cards and asked them to make the best poker hand that they could using their 15 cards and I would use the bottom card from each of my piles to make a hand. They made up a Full House and I slowly turned over my piles to reveal the 10, J, Q, K and A of spades. That bought the house down, especially as I was using the pubs own cards.

It's such a buzz getting that reaction, and the X Ray is so easy to do. I'm working hard on perfecting the ACR at the moment as I think that is such a great effect that can leave people astounded.

I agree - I would be interested to know how people deal with this question if you are using a gaffed deck that cannot be examined.

Agree completely with X Ray. Best £10 I spent for a trick. It just baffles so well.

As for gaffed decks, I haven't used any which are obvious. Just a R&S'd deck but not as an ID.

I find myself becoming de motivated if I don't show someone some magic for a while, it is always nice to be rewarded for all the time you put in. the only gaffed deck I have is a svengali, no one has figured that one out yet.

I get bombarded at school with requests for tricks so am working on a signed ACR with a card to shoe finale.
