Mechanical billet switching

Postby Ed Wood » Sep 2nd, '11, 17:09

Over the years I've seen various mechanical billet switching devices. i.e. a box of some sort that specs can place billets in, billets can then be switched for pre-prepared billets. Most of what I've seen have been quite poor and change bag will always be better or a straight billet switch.
Anyone come across any that actually work and can be safely handled?

Those look lovely, where can I get more info about prices, dimensions etc? Doesn't seem to be anything on their site at the moment.
The q&a box looks like the sort of thing I'm after (even though it's not for q&a).

Aaahh, just noticed they are waiting for their site to go live.
Any idea which of their boxes are best for switches?

Visit the antique shops. I just was there, and they have those high quality looking boxes made of olive tree wood ( very high duty )

Bob Cassidy has this sort of thing in a book of his ( Dreams and Devices ) . Now he doesn't use a fancy box. However, you can use those beautiful olive boxes and apply the same gimmicking as Bob describes.

Edit: There is the change cap I saw on penguin http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S11489" target="_blank I believe this is the way to go ? It just looks very ordinary for anyone to think there is something weird with the cap. There's a higher percentage of them suspecting the box than the cap.
