Erasable sharpie ??

Postby Samba » Sep 21st, '11, 01:36

Hello,

So I've been thinking through a certain routine, and is there something on the market where if a name or whatever is on the back of a playing card, can be erased ??? ( I'm not dealing with effects where there is a signature transfer... I'm looking for an item to do just that )

I've heard about the frixion pens, but it is possible for me to have a card with a name on its back that could be erased, and another name is written in its place, and then erase it again if I want to, and write another name on the back of the card again ???

Dry wipe pens go on like any other marker but can be removed quite easily from most surfaces, you would have to experiment with card backs though.

Yep, A_n_t is right; you'd need a deck of cards with a really high-gloss plastic coating.

Bikes certainly don't work with dry erase pens!

Frixion pens arnt as good as they sound. From what I understood, i would be able to simply rub on the writing with my finger and it would disappear. Not the case. You need to rub with the lid of the pen so you can't really use these in a sneaky way!

Spray the card back with hairspray, let it dry and then a dry wipe pen works a charm. I use this for a lovely little effect with regular 'glossy' card. Obviously if you need the cards to handle normally this may have an impact.

you dont need to use the lid. Any source of heat will erase the ink.
If you rubbed long and hard enough, the ink would eventually go.As would the tip of your finger ( nobody bingo that, )

Waving a cigarette lighter underneath would also remove the writing which may or may not be any use in this instance.

Yep it's the heat that removes the ink. I know a trick where a prediction is written on a bank note the card is selected blah blah blah and the note is unfolded to show the prediction as the 8 of clubs. No, says the spec, my card was the 3 of spades.

Wave a lighter underneath the note and part of the 8 and two nodes of the club vanish to change the prediction to the 3 of spades.

Frixion pens are great for use with a lighter!

Frixion pens remove the ink. However, does the ink come back ?? I heard that if you place it in a freezer, the ink comes back.

Item in search is finally found!

Ok so after some research, and after nothing was found, I accidentally came across this in Bascom Jones' Mindfield - A routine by Gary Dudash called Beautiful Dreamer. Honestly, the routine is nearly similar to the one I had in mind. Same concept.

The pen is a Sanford brand Vis-A-Vis model, used for overhead projection transparencies ( referred to as a pen, but on google images, it looks more like a sharpie ). When you apply water, it easily dissolves and fades away.

However, I believe the cards in play were plastic cards, I'm not sure and will have to find it, get it and try it first.

That's still good enough !!

So I hope this piece of information helps anyone out there too.

Edit: Ok, I found it. Here's an image, http://www.govgroup.com/images_products ... _large.jpg Its a Wet Erase type sharpie.

Going back to the Frixion pens, placing flash paper and lighting it on the card/paper or whatever will also remove the ink. Jeff Stone has a DVD 'Stone Frixion Fire' which features some interesting routines with these pens. Placing a card in the freezer can bring back the ink.

I use the frixon pen. And I can use the heat of my hand to make the mark disapear, it takes a moment or two but that is covered with patter. The problem here in the USA is getting the pens. I found a few at a dollar store, (but they cost more than a dollar), most places do not carry them because there was an issue of people writing cheques with them, and other people simply rubbing off certain parts of the check and adding some numbers. Not sure how that is the responsibilty of the company that produces the pens, but I heard they basically stopped supplying them to the US. Not sure how true the above is, but that is what I heard.

you can get water eraseable pens in craft shops. They are used to trace patterns for embroidery other fabric based crafts.
In fact there is a magical effect that came with one of these pens. I think it may well of been something that Blaine did on one of his shows. If i recall, you draw dots on teh palm of your hand, and move them around.
