Nearly time for my 1st gig ! With all the advice ive had from you guys, the guys at alakazam and even Mr Nyman helping me out im looking forward to my 1st job.

My mates have just told me there are 3 birthday party's going on all at the same time so the amount of people that will be there has shot up !

The guy that owns it is meant to be well off so im gonna try to impress him to get future work out of him hopefully lol.

My mates told me last time he had a magician there for the night it was "some french guy who said he was on fool us" ! So my 1st gig is in the shadow of Etiene :(

Hopefully he didnt use a ID or tool and other newer bits like look sharp and i'll impress lol 8)

As promised i'll post a report when im back sat night.

Just wanna say thanks to everyone who has posted here to help me :D

Jon - you're a top fella, and I have no doubt that, once you're into your stride on the night, you'll be buzzing and really enjoying the amazement you give your crowd :D

Forget Etiene, *you're* the man to watch on the night, and I've little doubt you'll have a real blast: report - photos - spec feedback...we want to see it all mate

I'd wish you luck, but you really don't need it, so I'll just wish you a night full of fun!

Try working a gig with Etienne (as someone here had to do once)!

Good luck with the show.

I look forward to hearing the success story.

If it's any comfort, Etienne doesn't use ID or Tool in his repertoire. :)

UPDATE !!!!!

Well the gig was last night. I had to work all day at my club but just as i was leaving a magician who works at alakazam walked in ! He was working a gig upstairs (what a coincidence)

I turned up and it was pretty busy already, i said my hello's and i could here a few people get told the magician was here and i started thinking $hit lol.

I had a few drinks (coke lol) and we went out the back where it was a bit more quite and there was a few tables, i was looking at my mates dad trying to work out if he had a watch on to do card under watch but he wasnt wearing one :( so i started looking at his suit wondering if his jacket pockets were open or still shut, they were open !! so i got close to him while he was talking and slipped the card into his pocket.

Someone then said about 10mins later "come on show us something !" so a few people gathered round and i got the dad to pick a card, it then vanished from the deck !? then i said check your pocket and it was in there ! That got a great reaction from the people round us.

Then a table became free and i said i'll show you a few more things and i started doing icontact, i could here people in the background saying "theres a magician doing magic" but i was so nervous i didnt look up lol as i revealed the 1st card i could see my hands shaking loads lol then the final reveal happened and i got a good reaction and some clapping.

Then i said i've got 1 more to show you and i did cataclysm but as i looked up a big crowd had gathered and my friends that were close were now about 3 heads back ! Now the nerves really kicked in lol. Before i had the cards chosen i used my BIP book and had a guy thinking of a time then i had the cards chosen, i then said "i took a photo prediction yesterday" and pulled out a photo with the cards any my mobile with the clock on showing the same time the guy was thinking of and that got a stunned reaction, then i turned the 3 cards over to show they matched and everyone went wild and clapping and people saying "what the f*!£" :)

Later on i did a few little bits like smoke and putting my mates phone into a ballon but there was only a few of us and i knew them.

I had loads more to do and after the nerves finally stopped i wanted to do more but when i went back in everyone was dancing and drinking so it was abit late really.

Just wanna go out today and perform again lol. Can i class myself as a magician yet ? ;) lol

Cheers for reading guys :)

Well done Jon, that must have taken some guts pal!

Any chance you could elaborate on some of the effects? I'm not sure what BIP is?!

And what you MIGHT have done towards the end when everyone was dancing and drinking? Hung out by the bar and performed whilst people waited and got drinks? Just an idea

That part of the story reminds me of being best man, spent two days sh****g myself, drunk almost a bottle of Champers beforehand, then when I had the Mic and people were in stiches I wanted more time lol

Congrats again mate

Cheers mate.

Yeah thats a good idea about the bar but the place was tiny mate and rammed ! They had to open the door to de mist the windows !

Go to alakazam and search the BIP book or the other stuff as i dont want anyone going on about too much info online and being google proof lol

Great story, mate.

The best thing is that you're ready to go out and do it again. Did you dish out any business cards for future bookings?

How was the aftershow buzz - did you sleep?!!!

The good news is that it sounds like you finished wanting to do more....so you're well and truly infected, now

Big (manly  ) pats on the back, all 'round mate!

Decent business cards are fairly cheap mate and imo make a difference when people are deciding whether to book you or not

"Jon Kent - top rentboy" etc

Good luck
