"Sticky" Cards

Postby Ant » Oct 5th, '11, 20:17

Get your minds out of the gutter and back away from the innuendo bingo thread.

I have just received a batch of "blank playing cards" but they seem to be a bit sticky. This is probably just down to the newness however I have tried shuffling, counting them out, bending the pack, but they still want to stay together. This would be ideal if I wanted to perform a DL but I do not, I need the cards to be a bit more fluid in my hands for their intended purpose.

Do I need to just keep "working" them as I have never had this problem with actual playing cards, these are just plain shiny card though, no air pockets, which I assume give my bikes the frictionless feel when needed.

Suggestions welcome. :)

Before going and buying powder, I have a a similar sounding problem when I fly with cards. I travel a fair bit and often take a deck of cards onto the plane with me. I often find that the tempreture difference (I think) makes the cards clump. Either that or maybe something to do with the different pressures but I would be more incluned to think the cold air in the cabin. Maybe you should just leave them in a warm place for a while in the box. If it's the same as my problem after a little while of being back at room tempreture they get back to normal.

Are they just not very slippery and act as though they are rough or is there like a sticky substence on them? If they just act rough then it probably is the same and like I said just leave them to settle, even playing with them at this point doesn't do anything. They'll just work themselves out after a while.

The same thing happens when I buy a new batch of billets. They are new and sticky. Not glue sticky, but rather won't fan nicely. After fumbling with them a little, they just slide together easily.

I can't really judge your case, for each stock material is different, but yea keep fumbling with it a bit and see if it smoothens up.

Sounds to me like you are purchasing seconds, which is why they are usually cheaper and are usually sold in the dollar stores. Some not very ethical types of retailers will buy seconds and sell them at normal prices, and of course most often you end up with cards such as you are describing and then complain to US card company or whoever that they are making bad cards.

As in Bicycle seconds ? Never had a problem with them. I like the off-centerness of them. Many opportunities to take with such a flaw in the deck.

No not seconds, just blank on both sides. Not air cushioned.

It is basically just shiny card.

I shall try a warm room and if not get some fanning powder.

Try a very light - a tiny amount - of baby or talcum powder, rubbed well in. This worked very well for me on some old linen finish cards and also on my business cards.
