Forgetting card technique

Postby Tjex1 » Oct 10th, '11, 18:45

Hi

I recently saw a video of an effect where a spectator picked a card and turned it around, then forgot what it was. I thought that this might go well into my mentalist card style, so can anyone direct me to some material like this? Specifically this effect because it is fairly simple but anything in this style is the kind of thing I am looking for.

Any help appreciated,

Tjex

Dunno if you mean the spectator is made to forget the card by you making them forget it using Derren like techniques ?

If you do mean that then on the James Brown professional opportunist dvds he has a card amnesia routine thats good.

I think I remember reading something in a Luke Jermey book about something similar, possibly in the 'Building Blocks' book, but I can't be certain. Personally though I saw some footage of his routine and it seemed to lack any kind of carisma or magic. He had a wham bam kind of presentation which didn't do what could be a nice routine justice, also his fooled spectator seemed to just be left there confused rather then amazed. I'd put a lot of thought into the presentation for such a routine.

There is an effect in one of the Dai Vernon book which works around thespec forgetting their card. But they dont. Sorry I am being cryptic, I dont want to spoil the effect I will look up the effect and give you the reference

The Luke Jermay effect is great...somebody looks at a card, you show that card to the rest of the audience, they hold out their finger and concentrate...you touch their finger lightly (E.T-esque) and ask them to name their card...which they can't do, no matter how hard they try.

I believe it was originally in 7 deceptions. Feel free to PM me if you need any additional info.

James Brown [theboss, on this site] has 'Cerebral Steal' on Professional Opportunist DVD 1. A way of getting them to forget a card thay have just seen.

Well in theory it is a nice effect. I mean it stood out enough for me to remember it even though it's not really the type of magic I perform when I work, I was just saying that when I say the actual magician perform it I was dissapointed. He just seemed to ignore the confused spectator which I felt made him seem like a bit of an ignorant person. I know stuff about him but if that was all I had to go on I'd not be looking for more stuff by him. Like I said, it's a great idea and in the right hands could easily be amazing, just apparently not Lukes, from the performance I saw of course.

Oh he performance he put out of it was awful. He was young and seemingly very arrogant.

Yes I agree completely with that. I'm aware of what he does now and so he's clearly changed a lot so it would be interesting to see him perform now at a show in Vegas. I do have a slight thing with his heavy essex accent though, it slightly gets to me when I've seen stuff of him.

Originally in 7 deceptions, but it takes that name in his other work, as mentioned above I believe.

This confusion rather than amasment and extreme arrogance seems to be the place where I saw it. Thanks for all your help, hopefully I will do it more justice than he did
