Just saw the below, so it has been confirmed that Lenny Henry will NOT be presenting the next series!

Tickets for a preview were released for obtaining this morning.
Seems it will be held in a music/entertainment venue, near to camden market.

Only 200 tickets are released and (I assume because its in a venue like this) is only 18+.

"this time viewers will be able to vote for their favourite team, with the losers facing a live forfeit."

So... Magicians X Factor crossed with Noel's House Party. Are they SERIOUSLY bringing back the forfeit?

I wonder how long until they just start showing an actual magic show. It's great that magic is on TV now, but I'm not convinced it really needs a gimmick (fnar) - just some proper promotion, some good, entertaining performers and a good production team.

The first version was poor enough. I can't imagine this being an improvement. Luckily I still have a good book.

That is fortunate, Tony... you wouldn't want the alternative of red hot pokers in the eyes.

Or maybe we're just out of touch... it does seem that there's a pattern here... apparently there's nothing that can't be improved by introducing a premium-rate public vote.

I was Talking to somebody at tab last weekend about why all magic shows these days have to have that element of danger at the end.. in this case it's the forefit.
It was explained that .....

basicaly the shows are put together by people with no imagination. they get to be commisioning editors by taking the safe route, and going with what has worked before. In this case, it's the danger element.

will it change? No. Because nobody wants to risk loosing their incredibly high sallary by taking a punt on an untried format.

Dale - that sounds a lot like my take on things (it's not just TV either... it's also the reason popular music is so torturous to listen to).

In this case I don't think you can discount the money aspect though - since the new dawn of phone-in TV came about they've been raking in fortunes from the "vote for your favourite to keep them in the competition" format.

I've long since given up on hoping the powers that be in TV and Music will break the mold and start coming up with some genuinely new and creative stuff (and not cancelling the few genuinely new and creative things after a single season) and now just have a pleasant surprise now and then when I stumble across something good.

At Tab did you envisage any light at the end of the tunnel? Any hope that we might see a straight magic show some time? I've yet to see Magician Impossible, but I get the impression that it's more in the right direction (if a little Blaine/Angel in format).
