Heckler wrote:I did Secret Santa at work once (and I emphasise once) after only working at a place for a few weeks. Bought a fun loving, humerous older chap a selection of real ales, thinking can't go wrong with that especially just before Xmas.

As he opened it his face momentarily lit up, then dropped and he mumbled, 'yeah thanks' as a number of other spectators gasped and shook their heads. Keeping my head down, somewhat confused I waited until after the giving had finished and asked someone what the problem was. "I don't know what b***** thought that was funny, but that guy is a recovering alcoholic."

oops!

Well guys, it's time. For all interested in taking part in this, please PM me your address so that I can add it into the pot.
I'm going to have to insist on uk based people only. Sorry about that.

Please spend no more than £10 on your gift. Also please allow a couple of quid to send it recorded delivery so that there can be no I'll feeling should a gift not make it through the post.

This secret Santa is not affiliated with talk magic and so any problems that may occur are not the issues of anyone associated with these forums.

I'll be the point of contact for this and I'll perform a lucky dip to see who send to who.

Once I have all the details, I'll PM everyone with the username and address of who they should buy for.

Please only take part if you are willing for your address to be sent on to an unknown party.

I would bother writing down all the small print but we are a friendly bunch so lets keep it light.
:D
On that note, start sending your addresses.

I find that Secret Santas work best if you juggle the names up into a circle and make each one buy a gift for the name to the left.

It avoids the embarrassing situation of drawing names one at a time and the last person gets themselves.
Alternately, if you pull out names in pairs, everyone knows who bought what.

Great suggestion Stacy, I'll do just that.

I've got quite a few of your addresses now which is great.

Seeing as I would like to buy someone a gift, I'm afraid that I'll be sending one of you my address. I'll know who it is. If any one particularly would like to do me then please let me know. If not I'll just use the random circle method as above.

We will need a cut off date so may I suggest midnight 20th November? I'll make the draw on the 21st and send you lucky people addresses and names as soon as the draw is complete.

Gifts don't have to be magical but please put some thought into the person you are buying for.

If anyone else has any great suggestions regarding this then please just say. It's the first one so it's untrodden ground.

....Aaaaannnnd - BINGO!!

Despite my current financial predicament, please put me down for the Secret Santa too - the recipient may have to accept a pre-owned effect, but it'll be something nice, I promise :D

Alec, if you would like someone who isn't in the Secret Santa to deal with some or all of the drawing and sending of addresses I'd be happy to help. I can't afford to join in as money is tighter than I care to think about just note, but if I can contribute to the forum's celebration of Christmas in this way, I will.

I understand that some may not want their details sending to me, and of course it'd have to be cleared by them, but if you send those addresses and your own you could enjoy the secret part too.

Anyway, if there's a way you can see it working and you want the help, let me know.

Rob, send me a pm with your address please old chap. :D

Big shot. Thanks so much but I'm quite happy doing this. Seeing as its the first one on this forum I'd kind of like to run with it. If I can't include myself then it's no big deal. Thank you for the kind offer tho! :D

Even though I wasn't around for the initial voting, I think this is a great idea, especially for such a great community.
It also gives us lurkers, who don't tend to say much or get to go to meetings, to interact with others and give back to the community.
I can see this, being all goes well, a great annual event to look forward to. (Though I am not psychic).
