Manchester Circle of Magicians

Postby Chris Black » Nov 1st, '11, 15:27

I sent an application form and a cheque off to these guys a while back and I've not heard anything from them. Is this normal? I was expecting some kind of confirmation, I even emailed the address on the website for Derek and have had no response.

Does anyone know when they last sent out a copy of "The Times" as I've not received one of these either?

It always puzzles me why people ask questions like this on forums. If I'd sent off to join something and heard nothing I'd ring the organisation concerned to ask what the position was I wouldn't put it on a forum - why would we know.

Ring Derek - he's a really nice guy and will tell you exactly what is going on.

By discussing it on a forum you often hear other people's experiences and viewpoints on things. Isn't this the whole point of discussion forums?

I haven't rang because I'm always at work when I remember, I did send an email which hasn't been replied to.

How ridiculous, what are forums for if not for help, advice and the exchange of ideas?

ACE T posting up here could of led to "When I became a member it took 3 months, so be patient" thats why its ok to ask imo

Did you actually mean it or are you posting to get a plug for your website and a hit on google rankings?

I agree with you Lee by all means post if you don't know where to go for an answer but if you know there is a man sitting in Blackpool who can give you the answer straight away why ask the members of Talk Magic - none of whom know why you have not heard from MCM

I really meant it. If I was just after promoting my website I would post far more often on here than I actually do.

My last one came a while ago. Can't remember when but it is dated Sept/Oct so I guess the next one is due anytime.

You never know unless you ask. I've found out so much from these forums it's untrue. Much of which through discussion.

I enjoy the social aspect of this forum, I've met some great people, made some good friends and the vast majority on here are helpful, friendly and very knowledgable.

I could use google and youtube rather than read the reviews on here. I could use eBay to buy and sell things rather than use the trading section on here.

There are a lot of posts on here that could be googled. There are a lot of posts on here that make you think "why?". There are posts that some of see as pointless. There are posts that ask obvious questions or questions that have been asked a hundred times before. Some of these threads turn into really interesting discussions for one reason or another.

You should've at the very least got a membership card, although they might've just held onto it for you to collect at the next meeting. As i understand it they only do one limited run of each mag, so I think your first one will be the next edition.

I personally have found it hard to get a reply to emails from derek (as helpful and friendly as he is when you do meet him), your best bet is to pester them in person, the people at the desk are friendly enough. The worst they can do then is tell you how they don't like you and don't want you to be a member to your face ;)

Just checked - yep.

Thanks for the info Kolm. I've sent a couple of mails now. I'm at home tomorrow so I'll try and remember to give them a call.

the number on dereks website transfers most times direct to his house though i doubt very much that he will thank me for passing that on. If all you have done is send in an application and then sat and waited ,, blasted off a couple of emails and then put it up on open forums then im inclined to agree with the earlier response of you havent done enough.
The club is very very welcoming, hell, we have nearly 500 members, great lectures, odd judges at close up competitions (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) , and a bloody good team spirit. i f youve sent everything and not heard there is every likelihood that unfortunately things got overlooked. Cant think how or why derek or anne, might overlook anything, what with xmas coming up , blackpool next year, fism, oh yes and an extra auction and lecture at the manchester circle to organise, nope nothing much on their plate really .
try turning up ,, the address is there, theres another lecture this monday,,

I know - I have a web developer who seems to implement things very slowly - I will badger him this weekend although his missus is due to give birth any minute. I told him I was adding a magic section and he added the title, but none of the links follow through.
[blatant plug] Hopefully very shortly all the designs will be available and also a 'build your own t shirt' application will be there too, so if we don't have anything you like - you can make your own! [/blatant plug]

In other news, I heard from Anne today - they've been really busy with various things mainly Blackpool Convention and FISM. But all is good and my card is on the way.

Good to know everyone speaks very highly of the group, so this post wasn't completely pointless as I've got to hear great things about MCM.
