Derren Brown new shows 4.0

Postby MisterRawlings » Nov 4th, '11, 22:07

Derren again expressed at the start of this one how the participants are made aware the things that happen might be nasty and how they are psychologically screened to make sure they are robust enough to take this and recover afterwards.

Despie the chage of gender for the White and Rev Green characters, aren't those names just a bit too obvious?

Sorry about my previous posts..

That's quite clever the way he is making Jody question his memory, I think you would realistically wonder what the heck is going on, especially when surrounded by 'normal' people (represented by good actors).

Yeah at the start I was wondering if you really wouldn't think of Cluedo regarding all of this, but I guess in real life you don't question or take notice of things.

Haven't seen it yet but according to his Facebook page, Jody is currently watching the program with Derren at Mr.Brown's flat! Oooh err.

I wish Derren would express at then start that the viewer will need a lot of caffeine to get through these tedious shows.

Haha. It is somewhat boring and dragged out at times, but C4 need to fill an hour.

Actually this one does seem a bit worrying, once again what if he does something very silly after all this stuff!

Can't help but wonder, what would Derren do if he ran down stairs to the kitchen and grabbed a knife and then killed himself or something!

The worst thing, for me, when watching these shows is seeing a once great talent clutching at straws to try and do something different but the end result is condescending to his "idiot viewers" who he feels he is educating and a tedious, banal televisual experience which lacks the punch, excitement and amazement of old.

He really starts to work with a decent writer on his next shows. The fact that Andy Nyman hasn't commented on them at all on Twitter speaks volumes.

Yeah Andy did some good things with him.

I still enjoyed the ending though!

I'm worried by the 'apparent''(?) lack of control with this one, they let an emotionally unstable fellow run off and they 'lost' him for abit?!

Isn't his current writer someone he found and stuffed in a spirit cabinet and then took a shine to?
These programmes really are basic and A level psychology stuff so it's depressing this is even purports to be educational (Derren may not have said they are supposed to be- I'm just saying..)

I didn't want to say it, but I believe you're right. At least Paul Mcartney didn't allow Linda to co-write all of his songs. The quality dip in Derren's tv output over the last few years has been astonishing.

Quite a cruel concept, presumably the reassuring laugh it off end bits were meant to show that no real damage had been done. However, if the point was to show that people can be manipuilated then all you need are the total and exclusive hire of a country house hotel, prop and scenery builders who can create a Police Station next to/in a pub, several dozen actors, several dozen more technicians and backroom crew plus rather a lot of money. Governments and very rich moguls (as well as TV channels!) are probably the most likely to want to do this for real!
