Are you technical/non-technical ? (tech savvy?)

Postby Discombobulator » Nov 24th, '11, 15:48

(*edit* title changed to attract more people to take the survey)
A quick survey to help my research into magician's technical abilities. I am preparing some technical material and don't know what level to pitch it at.

1) Would you say you had a very inquisitive mind ?
2) Do you often work out how a trick is done just by watching a video performance, or by experimentation ?
3) Do you 'need to know how a trick works' even if you are not going to perform it ?
4) What is your skill level in maths (e.g. number systems, logic, stats, probability, permutations, combinations) ?
(1= school basic
2= school advanced
3= science/technical job or college
4=degree level maths/science
5= advanced maths (masters degree, professional maths, lecturer etc.)
5) Do you understand scientific technical articles, and how comfortable are you when working with formulae. [completely lost, understand simple formulas, understand most technical articles, no problems)
6) which of these is your strongest attributes ?
science/logic; arts/crafts; language skills/writing; business/commerce; emotions/councelling/parenting/medical; Physical skills/manual skills/sport

Many thanks,
Gordon

1) yes 2) yes 3) yes 4) 4 5) understand most 6) science/logic

1) Would you say you had a very inquisitive mind ?
Yes.

2) Do you often work out how a trick is done just by watching a video performance, or by experimentation ?
I try not to - it spoils it.

3) Do you 'need to know how a trick works' even if you are not going to perform it ?
I used to, but it gets expensive. That's why reviews are important to me.

4) What is your skill level in maths (e.g. number systems, logic, stats, probability, permutations, combinations) ?
It depends on the area. Between 2 and 4. I think in pictures, even when doing mental arithmetic.

5) Do you understand scientific technical articles, and how comfortable are you when working with formulae.
Understand most technical articles, no problems.

6) which of these is your strongest attributes ?
Science, arts, business, counselling.

1) Yes
2) Occasionally
3) I like to, but not to an obsessive level
4) Spotty undergraduate maths
5) I'm happy with highly technical articles in my own field, prefer less technical in other fields depending on how far outside my area they go. Tend to gloss over formulae, but will pick through simple-to-moderate ones if necessary for understanding.
6) High on:
Language skills
Science (including medicine and psychology)
Arts and crafts
Essentially zero on:
Physical and sport
Counselling and emotional
Business
