Help Needed - Death on the Thames

Postby TonyB » Nov 28th, '11, 21:25

Hi everyone. I am working on a book entitled Death and Destruction on the Thames. Not surprisingly the topic is death and destruction on the Thames - famous ship wrecks, murders, suicides, building and bridge collapses, hauntings, revolutions, freak weather, floods, fires, blitzs, etc. Specifically I am interested in any such incidents along the Thames through London. If any of you, particularly our London members, know even vaguely of any such incidents, I would love to hear. Just the bare details are enough - I will do the research. I just want to make sure I leave nothing out.
All the best, and thanks in advance for any help. Tony

in the 1800s, one of my ancestors drowned herself in the thames, because she was unmarried, and expecting.
in or near Datchet where we hold the seances, is a memorial to all persons who have drowned in the thames.

we have many drowning victims turn up.

Thank you Stephen and Dale. Some good stuff there. All I need is the leads, and I can follow them up. All suggestions more than welcome.

Clutching at straws here Tony but research the Kray twins and the Thames. I'm sure there will be a link.

Can't go wrong using those famous old boys!!

What a terribly cheerful subject Tony is writing about! Incidentally, I still see his magic book in the book chains here in Canada. I do hope he is getting his royalties. I have heard horror tales of authors not knowing about their overseas sales which are not reported to them.

As for the Kray twins I knew them slightly when I was young and innocent. Methinks slightly was probably the best way to know them. I still remember showing up at their club years and years ago and the doorman wouldn't let me in saying, "You can't come in. Someone has been shot here tonight". I do hope they cleaned up the mess on the carpet.

Tony,

A couple slightly more recent items - pretty unpleasant reading, although the second one was written by a Paul Harris...

It sounds like a great project, Tony and there is a great deal of material out there. I'll be interested in reading the results.
