Hi there. I've been learning with cards for just over 2 years now, its really great and I can understand some of the confusion. On how to start, I think the main tip I could give is to make sure you learn the basics well and don't try and run. Also you can end up with many sleights but not many applications and effects. It really helps to slow down and get some great effects learned, start doing them and really start enjoying entertaining. Don't overlook something because its simple as its often the simpler things when performed really well that amaze. I never tried RRTCM though I heard its great as it has lots of magic in it too. Just try to get the feel of the cards and maybe practice shuffles while you're watching TV. I always do and it really does start to feel very natural so you don't think about it anymore. Its like having eyes in your fingers, you start to feel more and more control. A great shuffle to learn with the overhand one is the riffle shuffle (either table or in hands) because it has many applications for the beginner and magic, and also it's great at breaking new cards in. I hope that helps,
All the best
