My Moment Of Fame

Postby CArlight1958 » Dec 6th, '11, 10:14

I've just joined a new golf club. Me, & a couple of friends moved from our old place this year.
So after we had finished our round on Saturday, I was sat in the bar, & my 3 mates always like me to do a trick.
So cards in hand, I decided to do " Psychotronic Rides Again" (P Gordon/Darwin Ortiz) & "Modern Jazz Aces"(Darwin Ortiz)
Both routines I have never done before for anyone other than my partner.
Before I realised it, there were about another 10/12 members round the table. I was very nervous.

Both routines I have practised daily for more than 5 months, but once all eyes are on you, it's a little more nerve racking,
& they are quite difficult routines.
Still nerves in tatters, both went as rehearsed, & what really pleased me was.
A guy who was stood behind me, who I didn't know said. " Bloody hell, that was good"
My two mates on either side, who's breath I could feel on my hands, they were that close, couldn't spot a thing.
I was so chuffed.
I did another couple of easy card production type stuff, & came home with the biggest grin on my face...

Just makes me want to do more.

well done mate.........I think I need to force myself to perform for someone pretty soon (not force them to watch me perform, that's completely different).... every time my friends ask to see something I don't feel confident enough and end up making excuses...........stories like this make me feel good though.

I no how you feel Cartorious, I was just the same, but the more you do for strangers, the easier it gets, & hey, if things go wrong, so what.
I just say, "Well I'm just starting out in magic, & this happens sometimes. I tend not to get too up tight about it anymore.
After all, I do this for enjoyment just as much for myself, as I do for others. So lets have a laugh, & enjoy the moment.
My phil-of-isy anyhow :D

I do admire the seasoned pro's who wonder round table hopping, nerves of steel, it's something to look forward to. Maybe next year

One thing I am now starting to do is.
Put good routines together. Routines where by one trick leads to another.
Looks much better than fumbling through the deck, & pre-arranging it.

Really pleased with how things have progressed, can't imagine where my magic will be a year from now, but I'll keep all up to speed.

Till I'm told to shut up :D

How very Yoda!

It is one of the best feelings in the world though. Applause is a drug.

Well done Carl, Keep up the good work and remember 20 mins performing for someone in a bar/golf club is worth many months of practice in front of a mirror. Dont forget your cards next time.
