'Carry On Tarot' - brilliant! Barbara Windsor could be the two of.... anything, really....

Mandrake's warped mind is belting along full steam with thoughts of an 'Are You Being Served' tarot....

The quick and easy tarot does exactly that, it has the picture in the middle then the meaning underneath, it has the reversed meaning as well above. While it might help people learn they do lose a lot of the charm that way. The tell me tarot have meanings written on as well, but these are incredibly basic, probably too basic to do much of a reading with. But to be honest I think tarot should take some effort to learn.

A J Irving wrote:Someone should do a basics tarot where each card has the name, a small illustration and then the majority of the card is made up of text describing what it's supposed to mean so that beginners can start messing around with the cards without having to flick through a book for each card. If you didn't bother with the illustration, you could save money but not having to pay someone to come up with original artwork for them. They'd probably be pretty cheap to produce and if you got a bunch of experienced tarot workers to sit down and agree on the actual texts, you'd have a pretty cool set for newbies to practice with.

But the picture is a jumping off point, it tells a story, by taking the picture away and just giving stock meanings you are taking away part of the power of the tarot. You may as well just learn a stock cold reading script and go with that

I have a beautiful laws of attraction deck that fits me as a person but not used them to do a reading with yet.

To a certain extent, having just the image, with perhaps a title, means there is much mystery in each card. Such mysteries will be explained and interpreted by the reader based on the circumstances and other information gleaned at the time of the sitting. If the cards were descriptive only then the querent could do the whole thing unassisted.

Bit trickier, I'd have said due to the much more limited cast and plots.

I would have suggested Babs as the Two of Cups, but feel that honour probably belongs to Margaret Nolan...

Anyway, here's my stab at the Major Arcana, especially for Lord Freddie. I've tried to get in all the main actors, but sometimes I chose someone with a bigger part *Carry On sound effect* over people who appeared in more films. The fakir from Khyber would have made good Hermit, for example, but the role was small and Cardew Robinson only had one Carry On appearance. Eric Barker was in a few of the films (including the very first one and the last of the main batch), so I thought he deserved a spot. Obviously, some cards are very hard to attribute, but there's a reason for each choice. Oh, and I used a different film for each card.

Charles Hawtrey The Fool (Charlie Muggins) Camping
Frankie Howerd The Magician (Francis Bigger) Doctor
Valerie Leon The High Priestess (Leda) Up the Jungle
Hattie Jacques The Empress (Matron) Matron
Kenneth Williams The Emperor (Julius Caesar) Cleo
Terry Scott The Hierophant (Cardinal Wolsey) Henry
Jacki Piper and Richard O'Callaghan The Lovers (Sally Martin and Bertrum Muffet) Loving
Windsor Davies The Chariot (Sgt Maj Tiger Bloomer) England
Bernard Bresslaw Strength (Bunghit Din) Up the Khyber
Eric Barker The Hermit (The Chief) Spying
Bernard Cribbins The Wheel of Fortune (Albert Poop-Decker) Jack
Jack Douglas Justice (Sgt Jock Strapp) Dick
Kenneth Connor The Hanged Man (Sam Twist) Regardless
Sid James Death (The Rumpo Kid) Cowboy
June Whitfield Temperance (Augusta Prodworthy) Girls
Leslie Phillips The Devil (Jack Bell) Nurse
Kenneth Cope The Tower (Vic Spanner) At Your Convenience
Barbara Windsor The Star (Goldie Locks) Again Doctor
Fenella Fielding The Moon (Valeria Watt) Screaming
Peter Butterworth The Sun (Pepe) Abroad
Joan Sims Judgement (Gloria Passworthy) Constable
Jim Dale The World (Christopher Columbus) Columbus
