I must admit that I forgot this was actually on... Knew I should have checked here, but due to the problems of moving house over the past week and not having a PC up and running till a couple of days ago, I had fallen behind on the postings here.

However, I did manage to see part of the show. It was on TV in a bar where myself and my family were having dinner Sunday evening. I managed to catch about the last 25 minutes of it and from what I saw, I must admit I was very impressed.

Kevin, what did your family think of of the idea of you giving up a scientific carreer and becoming a magician??? I'm not knocking you at all but was just wondering as I myself took a gamble and gave up working in the UK. It was one of the best things I've ever done with my life and I hope you feel the same happiness as I did and still very much do and you also have the full support of your family!

Just on another note.... It was nice to see Matt Edwards in it as well if just for a brief moment. I got a few strange looks in the bar when I shouted out, 'Ere, that's my old mate Matt!!!' at the top of my voice.

Anyhow, keep up the good work and may all your magicial dreams come true!!

But he's not Matt anymore- he's "Matt the Marvel" now. :) Bless him.

I still think it a big shame we didn't get to see the full 8minutes of all the final acts.

Hi Kevin

It was great to see you succeed in your challenge so spectacularly and I was really surprised (in a nice way) by the revelation at the end that you quit your PhD to continue your magic. I'm currently doing a physics PhD (at Warwick) and I know some people who, after seeing you are now wondering if they are doing the right thing...

It was particularly heartening to see everything come right for such a nice guy - well done! It would be great to see you keep up with the updates here, I’m sure there are lots of people keen to know how things are progressing for you.

Andy

Hi everyone

It was a big decision but a very easy one to give up my PhD. I always had slight doubts doing it and I had come to the decision before faking it that I wasn't going to be a research scientist, but I also thought that I'd be able to finish my PhD and positively add to the knowledge in Forensics and Photometric Stereo. I suppose the doubt in my mind prompted me to contact Faking It.

After performing and seeing the reaction of the audience as well as that of my mentors I had to give this a try. It is something I trully enjoy. Everything about the art fascinates me. I want to make, invent and perform magic that people enjoy. Nothing has given me more pleasure than the reaction of people watching me perform. I continue to do my stage act at the Stand Comedy club in Edinburgh, I don't want to lose the confidence generated from doing the show.

My family thought I'd rushed the decision, it took only two days to make on my return to edinburgh, and understandably so. However after seeing the show, they understand my logic a bit more.

I'm realistic enough to know that this may not work out, and that I may not cut the mustard without the professional guidance I had on the show. But I am ambitious enough to give it my best shot. Regardless, I want to continue to entertain people with magic.

Speak later, Kevin

The torn and restored newspaper was exposed on the program. I doubt that anyone here will expose the torn IOU routine. Sorry.

faking it magic tricks. wrote:I really enjoyed the TV programme faking it. Since seeing the programme I've been learning some tricks from a book.

Could you or anyone let me know how to do trick where you rip up the newspaper and unfold it whole, and the dissapearing IOU which was really good.

You should have paid more attention... these were revealed on the show, weren't they?
