VENTRILO BIRD 'WARBLER'.

Postby Allen Tipton » Jul 31st, '12, 20:29

Do any of you Guys know if the Ventrilo--a semi circle gadget that fits under the tongue and when you 'bloe' makes a funny noise, IS STILL MADE?

I had a dozen as a boy from Ellisdon & Son.
Pat Page used one on his video--Funny Biz For Kids.

A few years ago there was a trailer/caravan at Nottingham Goose Fair. I bought 2 from them but on TM a guy in Australia desperately wanted one so I sent him the 2 I had bought!!

Hi Allen

I bought a couple of a man dressed as a bird watcher walking around the royal mile in Edinburgh. I will dig them out and get the name for you. Brilliant to carry about and start bird songs randomly :)

Edit - there is a website to buy too will post that aswell

There have been a couple of guys selling these in Birmingham City Centre most Saturdays. I'll check this Saturday but, knowing my luck, they'll be selling musical bubble guns this week!

This is the bird whistle thing craigie mentioned, right?

Here's a UK place that sells them online, Allen: http://www.soundtravels.co.uk/p-Vogel_B ... -3871.aspx

Or you can buy one from Germany: http://www.danmoi.com/en/voglpfeiferl-b ... istle.html

I had a few as a child but could never make them work. I suspect that it's because you need to be able to "tongue-roll", which is a genetic trait!

We used to pitch those things when I worked for Ward Hall (Wondercade show).

You could have some fun with them.

Nostalgia Mode ON....

Back in the days iof The Ideal Home Exhibition in Bingley hall Birmingham, every year there was a guy up in the balcony area who used to sell jokes and tricks including the BirdWarbler, immediately followed by the puffing away on a fake cigarette then demoing things like the African Bones - a sort of Pom-Pom stick effect - a card trick or two (might have been a Svengali deck, can't remember) there would also be a KP peanut can which when opened ejected a spring snake and at some point the fake fried egg, fake sugar cubes and that all time big selling fake dog poo would be introduced. After each demo session the money rolled in like a tidal wave, all the while accompanied by continued bird warbling and Mr Punch from Punch and Judy muttering, 'That's the way to do it'. Ah, the simple pleasures in life...

Ellisdons used to sell it along with a booklet on how to be a ventriloquist - the implication being that the Ventrilo was helpful in some way...

Yes Barry--it was written by Tina Ellisdons father and he never was a Vent.
I had 2 copies & sent her one during the 2 year correspondence we had.
Must write to her again.

Got mine from this guy when I was performing with him in Street near Glasonbury.

He goes by the name of "Birdyman" and lives in Brighton. There are several vids on U tube of him performing.
