Staff 'Britains got talent' style competition.

Postby shuffleshuffle » Oct 26th, '12, 09:36

The company i have been working for are doing a BGT style show and as expected I have been volunteered to do magic!

I was thinking of doing Wayne Dobson'sexchange

(For those not in the know; www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBeVg2fu0z4)

I have 4 other team mebers that I want to involve some how (no matter how little they are involved).

I was thinking of making them all be assistants that mess up EVERYTHING (like taking lids off pens, knocking over the flipchart, etc, etc).

has this idea got legs? Any other ideas that I could do?

What you reckon? I was going to use the MD as the victim :P

Generally speaking, showing the MD in a good light is the way to go, anything which pokes too much fun or indicates loss of respect for the person or the position isn't a good idea - even if it is a social event - MDs can be strange and moody people at times with very long memories! Good luck with the show, hope it all goes well for everyone!

Not seen that act befor, thanks for mentioning it, it's right up my street!

I've been thinking and you can change the structure of the trick with the inclusion of an assistant.

once the card has been selected get an assistant to look at it, write SEX on a piece of card and hold it up to the audience somewhere the performer cannot see it. the performer can then ask all the questions as if trying to work out the word, he can then write EAT as a prediction and have it match with the chosen card.

Maybe worth a try?

I see, so the performer 'gets it wrong' because the prediction isn't sex, but then it turns out it's right after all. But then why did the assistant write SEX?

There's two magic moments in the video posted; one that the performed correctly guessed EAT, the other is that the performer wrote SEX on the signed card but somehow when the volunteer turns it over it says EAT. You would lose the second effect.

To involve an assistant, you could just get them to shuffle, and/or to read out a few of the activities from the cards.

'Cause it's funny?

The routine really isn't about the magic element of the trick.

You could always have the assistant magically change their sign if you wish

Just thinking out loud really

THe hilarity is in the questioning.

The premise is the selected card must be eat to make the cards funny.
The writing of the word SEX infront of the audience is there so that when the questions are answered, the audience think the spectator is talking about sex.

So having the SEX card hidden from the audience negates the workings of the trick :)

Im going to perform the trick as is. Just thinking of stuff going on around it for my colleagues to do.

thanks for the input :)

Michael J.Fitch demoed this at Blackpool and it went very well indeed. He had somehow picked just the right kind of spec to involve, she played the part to the hilt and, although a little' earthy' in style, it's the kind of routine which can go over extremely well with 'adult' audiences who are ready for something leaning towards risque.

While I completely agree with what you've said there, I'm not sure where anyone suggested not showing the audience :?
Or am I going blind?
