Okay I've got some adware lodged in my computer that I can't shift - Adware and Spyware Killers aren't working so is that why I am seeing adverts on the forum or are the adverts meant to be there?!

I'm seeing too - not sure if it's a good or bad thing having ads on the page.

Yeah I see the ads too.

I think they're attached to the forums...

And what's with this 'Click here to visit' business?

Hi Folks

Yes, the ads are supposed to be there and are helping towards paying for the running of the forum. Please note that I have personally paid for all the running costs of this forum since its inception and now find it necessary to subsidise the costs by including the legitimate and usually relevant advertising campaign provided by google so please do click on them.

The click here to visit business is a change that has been made so that ranking points with search engines are not leaked to other sites. You may have noticed that over the last 6 months or so, talkmagic has received a huge growth in users. This is mainly due to tweaks such as this.

Best regards
Laurence

They're down the right hand side of the screen under the View Posts since last visit, View your posts, View unanswered posts etc. They're also at the bottom of a page when viewing posts.

I use Crazy Browser rather than Outlook because it avoids those irritating Pop-Ups but the ads are there OK.

Google ads are actually javascript and generated after the page has been served up from talkmagic. Because of this, there are some configurations which will block these ads even though they are not popups etc...

No worries discoman. Everybody doesn't have to click on them, I just don't want people deliberately NOT clicking on them because they think they are being spammed!

Actually, those adverts are rather interesting and it shows what's going on in the professional world. Not too sure about magictricks.co.uk advertising where e-magictricks is a forum sponsor but I guess that's just how the advertising thing works. I'm trawling through the ads one by one so I hope the old clapometer is recording all the hits. As you rightly say, all income gratefully received!

That's very interesting discoman. Please give me your bank details so I can check this out for you... :D

Thanks for the comments Archie.

Not too sure about magictricks.co.uk

Google just shows who they consider to be the most appropriate, based on the our page content, the number of clicks their ad gets and a few other parameters (including how much they pay google).

I do have plans with regard to the advertising and it is quite possible that the google adwords will be replaced by something similar to magicweek style advertising. Having said that, I think on the actual topic pages it may be useful to have a google adword style ad, as this is likely to point directly to a shop which sells the item in discussion.

In any case, in the same way as google utilise adwords on their own pages, I will do my very best not to spoil the user experience with these ads.

Best regards
Laurence
