There are many independent creations similar or variations of others effect. I have one that is based on a Black Hart effect and i informed Keith and all was well. Don't assume something underhand is going on, Paul is a nice chap.

Honestly, I've been doing that thing everyone suggests - where you research as many different versions of one effect as possible to come up with a combination of techniques that is ideal for you - and even just looking at two or three common effects ( ring & string, professors nightmare, anything with rubber bands) it's evident that everyone is reusing everyone elses material, sometimes credited, sometimes not, sometimes the person they credit credits someone else, who says they have no idea who did it first.

The people writing the books and making the DVDs seem to be okay with reuse of material, the community thrives on the organic imrpvoement and repackaging of old material. Other than a few notable examples of people stepping on eachothers original effects within a very short time (and either undercutting or overpublicising to choke the market), there's very little animosity amongst the authors regarding idea development.

The people who REALLY appear to get their hackles up over this are the readers. From their perspective it seems to be a case of "OMG! I paid £20 for this book and only half of it is new material, what a ripoff!" or "This is just based on a principle from Banachek, there's nothing new here!"

If the authors want to litigate, they will. If they want to publicise their distaste, they will (they certainly have a much greater reach than a forum post). The last thing they need is their respective fans getting into turf wars over a trifle ( or a triumph :D ), smearing eachothers names, and fracturing what is actually a very friendly community overall.

Re The Ultimate Transposition:

Firstly, the handling/technique is very different. Secondly, I published it TWENTY years ago. Thirdly, I credit Sadowitz in my 1994/6 book(s). Fourthly, I have been performing it at most conventions etc for 25 years and this is is only the 2nd time someone has made nasty remarks about it/me. Either way, it's not nice! (Say it to my face if you really have to!)

So, making snide remarks twenty-five years AFTER the fact is a bit old hat. But, thanks for the kind words to those who said kind/nice things.

Yours, PG

Thanks for setting the record straight Paul, not that you should have to do anything of the sort. Let's all please take this as a reminder that just because we have opinions and hang ups, it's no reason to post accusatively or aggressively - just ask the simple question as you would if face to face.

JabJay wrote:The reason I was so aggressive was that this is not the first time, every time I post people seem so snarly and horrid in their responses so why should mine be any different.

I take back my problem comment then.

thanks for your responses any how.

Why should your comments be different? Because if you don't then become part of the problem, not the solution. You cannot change another persons actions or re actions. You can only change your own.

As Ghandi put it. "Be the change you wish to see"

The point is still the same. It seems your posts do garner very aggressive responses. So you may want to catch your breath and take a good look at the way you phrase your comments. Blaming others for the way they respond is frankly a pretty poor excuse. At least take some of the responsibility.

This thread, for example, was clearly created to spread negativity and heated debate. You asked a question that you clearly didn't believe was a question because in your heart you already had all the facts, you already had tried and convicted Mr. Gordon. So any response that didn't agree with your statement, or at least called into question your statement was going to be viewed by you as an attack.

If you come onto a board such as this looking for validation don't bother. For the most part you won't get it and you will just be frustrated.

It's odd that you and Aza end your posts with 'Much love'. It's not that common. Not pointing the finger, just a weird observation.
