Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Nope, you did too much and as a result you rushed the patter to get everything in,and the presentation suffered. You need to have somebody work on the act with you, who can chop it down. You had 10 mins. once you take your introduction patter, and closing patter out of that you have no more than 8 mins left to do the effects. half of that could be taken up by the cups on their own. the other bit by profs nightmare. And you managed to squeeze in all that other stuff using wordy patter.
I would go for it again, but only after the act has been dramatically cut. :)

I would still love to know who the examiners are. And if any of them are under the age of 85.

the examiners were young to middle aged, they seemed friendly enough and I don't doubt their competence. I just rushed through, I'll just re-apply and have another go :)

No probs. I should say that i wasnt there, I was basing this on your set list and descriptions alone. However, I have helped a few people put their act together for auditions and so far have had 100% success, because ive sat there timing, and filming, and discussing the acts into the wee small hours. :)

6 dffects in 10 minutes and one was cups and balls? Yeah, what Dale said. Perhaps, if there is nobody in your area to go through it with you make a video, but don't post it here cause you will get way too many conflicting critiques that won't help you in the least. So ask somebody you can trust and send them the vid and see what they say.

pssst, (if it were me, in your shoes...I would beg Dale)

I'd offer to help but I don't like competitions, I don't like this 'interview' process and I'm not a fan of magic clubs so I'm not a good resource in these matters.

I understand the whole initiation thing. And I think for your average hobbiest it is a good thing. But for somebody who performes, who makes money at it, who gets repeat business, then the performance to get in should be just a formality so everyone in the club goes through the same ritual.

I know many will disagree with me and thats okay.
