Wide cards

Postby Relish » Dec 27th, '12, 19:37

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy playing cards where the short side is slightly longer than normal bikes?

Im hoping to make a few cards in the style of a stripper deck, but to use them in a normal deck, and i assume cards from a stripper deck would be made from a normal deck and so not suitable.

I hope this isnt exposure, but mods feel free to edit if needed.

I came across wide cards (and long cards) a couple of years ago, but I'm not sure where - cards4magic perhaps. They are/were available though.

Will you be using the actual stripping action, or is it for cutting ? If its for cutting you could take the required cards from a stripper and use them in a regular deck in the manner of a short card.

Are you able to say more without exposure ? (Or you can PM me) - there may be better alternatives, depending on your routine.

The wonderful people at Cards4Magic would most definitely be my first recommendation. Even if you can't find what you're looking for on their website, pick up that most fabulous invention of Mr Alexander Graham Bell and speak to them in person. They're more often than not able to source your requirements even if it's not something that they'd usually stock.

Would it not be possible to use poker size cards as the larger ones with a bridge deck being the main deck?

I had some decks trimmed which made it easy to use slightly adapted cards as long, wide and even short cards.
Cost a bit, though, and the gentleman who provided this service is now sadly deceased.

I was thinking this, but aren't the lengths slightly different too?

Yes, you need to trim them.

According to this they are the same length:

Bridge cards should, technically, be the same length as poker cards but that's not always the case in reality.
Even when the ones you choose are the same length as your chosen deck, if you want to use a poker card as a wide card with a Bridge deck, you'll need to trim it because it's going to be a great deal wider than the Bridge cards otherwise. Not very subtle :)

Why not using a cut-narrow deck? So you wouldn't be limited to the few "wide" cards; any regular card would be a "wide" card in a narrow deck.
