A conversation with David Berglas

Postby isb » Jun 19th, '13, 22:32

Folks,

Apologies if this has already been posted - I had a quick search and didn't see it.

The Edinburgh International Magic Festival returns this summer for its fourth year. Of particular interest is the Conversation with David Berglas on Saturday 29th June - Kevin McMahon hosts. http://magicfest.co.uk/whats-on/118

There are a number of other good looking shows on the programme including at least two performers I've seen on this forum (Ian Kendall and MagicBill). Piff, R Paul Wilson, Morgan and West and Colin McLeod also feature.

I'm helping out at it this year - going to be great.

Ian

David Berglas is wonderful. I have fond memories of seeing him decades ago doing a live show at the (I think) Victoria Palace in London. No mentalism of any kind. I remember the performance vividly. Very amusing opening if I remember correctly exposing all sorts of simple tricks to the audience to get them on his side. I still use one of the bits in my kid show to this day. He did the Vanishing Cane in a piece of newspaper and at the end of the show reproduced it again. He did the fantastic cigarette routine which made him famous and even in that large theatre you could see every detail of it in the immaculate lighting. There were card tricks galore including one where he memorised the entire deck. He finished with pickpocketing.

This must have been over 50 years ago. The show has stuck in my mind all through the years.

Go see him!

He is simply fantastic. His two hour lecture at Psycrets a few years back was amazing. We also were delighted to see him perform a few minor miracles with borrowed packs of cards. Fabulous.

When I was young he spent an evening teaching me magic. I don't think he has quite recovered from it yet.
