It's interesting that out of the 12 replies to this thread only one of the respondants has actually asked about the effect. Please don't take this as an insult or a have-a-go. It's more of an observation that has been playing on my mind recently and it worries me. I'd also like to thank those who have offered to have a look over the effect, in what I presume is a proof reading role. Those offer's are kindly appreciated and in most cases I know what nice guys those few are

.
Hi Guys, I've just come up with a brand new effect that I've been working on for a couple of days. If anybody would like me to send them a copy for free just reply to this thread.
Lets, pick this thing to peices:
1) The original post did not contain any reference to what type of effect I might be offering. It could be cards, close up, cabaret, stage or anything. Why would you ask to recieve a trick if you had no idea what it is!? Unless of course you're expecting to get something for nothing.
2) There was however a clue in the post as to the quality of the effect.
a brand new effect that I've been working on for a couple of days.
I can gaurantee that anything that has only been around for a few days is not going to be anything special. Infact, unless the author is a top class magician of the highest order (and trust me I am definitely
not!) you can be pretty sure that the effect will be rubbish, especially if its being offered en mass to Joe Public with no form of restriction or control. It won't have been audience tested or been properly developed through hundreds, if not thousands, of performances.
And yet, there are quite a few people who are eager to get their hands on an effect which they know nothing about.
I worry that we who use this forum are turning into a group of people eager to get as much as we can with out giving anything back in return. Scroungers who want to take the money and run. Rather than a community of like minded people coming together to discuss our art and further it through dedication, patience and persitent practise. I know which of those two groups I would like to be a member of and it grieves me to see so many eager new magicians going down the path of least resistance and following the crowd into a frame of mind which goes against everything that the Magic Fraternity have spent centuries upholding. There are no quick solutions to becoming a good magician, it doesn't work like that. It takes hard work and practise, something that seems to be worryingly lacking in many magicians at the moment, particularly young ones. This is not an ageist statement, simply a sign of the times.
However, as an act of good faith, I will supply anybody still interested with a written copy of one of my effects, as promised. Those interested can let me know via PM.
