Hi there Luke, are you new to this board.

Things are (to say the least) a bit quiet around here lately, but every once in a while good people like yourself post.

I have a few half decent tricks I use, but I always come back to my old favorite which will always be "The Ambitious Card". I suppose I like it because it takes quite some practise to get it nailed down just right. When you show it, it is a mind blower and you can perform it with any deck (when any decent deck if you want to hide the DL!)

Regards... Tony

Easy to do? "Whooaa" I wouldn't call this effect Easy! I know there are a few moves that are relatively simple, but when you start to throw in a pass or two, it moves away from "Easy” into at least the "Moderate Experience Required" area.

At least that's in my opinion. :-)

Regards... Tony

belive me if you spent as much time practicing
on that routine as me you would find it easy
as soon as i knew how to do that i practised about 5-6 hours a day on that one routine

Shows commitment, it took me that long, with about a months practice to get the hang of the pass, let alone put it into a routine. Even now when I do the ambitious card I only use a couple of passes and do the rest with control shuffles

Favourite card tricks

Postby seige » Apr 22nd, '03, 15:38

OK, here is my own personal top 10 (if anyone cares!) starting with my favourite at 1:

1: Lennart Green's Laser/Snap Deal - hard to master, but will slay an audience. Must be performed sat down at a table, though.
2: Daryl's Ambitious Card - check the Daryl DVD/Video
3: The ID - all time classic, so easy!
4: Paperclipped by Jay Sankey - I've even fooled fellow magi with this one
5: Gary Freed's NFW - will make jaws drop
6: The Colour Monte - when I first performed this, I made a woman cry!
7: Torched and restored by Brent Braun - Easy, slick and impossible!
8: Presto Printo by Daryl - carry this one everywhere. Great bar trick. Instant reset.
9: Credit Card - my own invention... banknote is folded and becomes a signed selected card. Email me for the routine...
10: Regal's Special Delivery - signed card to envelope routine... awesome

ADDITION: between 2nd and 3rd place I would like to add Paul Harris's Deep Astonishment. Just got it, got the handling down in 10 minutes, performed it to some friends, they now think I'm Max Maven, but without the black triangle ;)

Also, I recommend the books 'Art of Astonishment' by Harris. Certainly not for amateurs, though.

will have to agree... 2 card monte is good but also like the vodoo ash

Two Card Monte is the best card effect and it uses a normal deck of cards
If you want a trick that requires no sleights Rising Card Deck is the best (the reactions i have got with these two have been incredible)

I mentioned a couple of times on the old forum how good the version of out of this world on Derren Brown's "Devil's Picture Book" is but since it has been brought up again I will say it again. It is a one spectator version without any of the changing of piles necessary in others, the spectator even shuffles the deck before starting, and no deck switches or hard sleights are used!
Unfortunately the video is no longer being produced, but you might be able to get your hands on a second hand copy if you can find someone willing to sell!

There is no such thing as the best of anything. One man's trash is another man's gold. In other words it's a matter of personal choice. All that matters is what effects can you do in your style that will really entertain your audience so much that they will ask to see it again, which of course you will not do until they see you again. Then you will know what YOUR best is.

McDonalds $100 4 ace trick

Postby abracadave » Apr 17th, '07, 04:37

Without a doubt. McDonalds $100 4 ace trick. The Frank Garcia, Stars of Magic version.

Still to this day, it doesn't matter how many other tricks I learn, whenever I bump into someone they always ask to see 'THAT' 4 ace trick again!
