I was a bit disaponted by last nights show :(.

there where several effects and none of them left me wondering wow how did he do that...

The mo mowlam bit was obvious, and he tried to say she was influenced by the newspaper in front of her!.. it wouldnt have anything to do with his hand signals.... "think of a country, like america...." whilst making the shape of Britain out with his hands...

the bit with the 3 people picking numbers and him guessing the sum was also obvoius..

I wouldnt stand a chance of performing anything like this and he does them so well, its just dosnt seem to be as good as the last trick of the mind. maybe his saving the best bit to last... i've seen him live this year and there is some excelent stuff that I am hoping he will do :).

and ill still watch it again on friday!

cant wait for the rpt on friday :)

Kems - you are right. I don't think this series has been as good as Derren's previous series - yet.

Was very impressed with the card trick he did on Jonathan Woss and his wife - not too sure how that was pulled off!

the woss trick was great but cant quite remember the sequence, but basically from what i remember they shuffled the deck under the table and turned one card over and it was his predicted card!

Yeah that's right. Obviously the effect was souped up with Derren's usual barrage of verbal wordplay to enhance the effect even more!

Excellent stuff.

Check out the post I just made in Magician Talk and let me know what you think!

Cheers.

Actualy both John, and Jane shuffled a pack, and turned over a card which matched a card Jane named prior to the effect.

The second half of last night's Tricks of the Mind was certainly very dark and I bet there will be some complaints about it. Interestingly enough there was another programme on last night showing the 'Top Ten' of the most complained about TV programmes. Derren's Séance only came 4th!

I think his Russian Roulette special was more disturbing than the seance!

Maybe that is due to personal experience though...

When the bullies at school found out I was allergic to peanuts, they made me play Russian Roulette with a packet of Revels.

According to his website, Derren had many times more complaints over Séance than over Russian Roulette so obviously the viewing public don't care if he blows his head off as long as he doesn't show how fraudulent mediums can fool the unsuspecting punters. It makes you think, doesn't it!

or to put it another way,

the viewing public don't care if he blows his head off as long as he doesn't come back and tell everyone after he is dead...

I can see the new tagline now:

"This show is a mixture of showmanship, hypnosis, magic, suggestion and horrific, gory violence."

Lovely.

I happened to be channel hopping last night in between Derren on E4, and during the advert I went to C4 (I think) and they were showing the TV programmes that had received the MOST amount of viewer complaints and Seance was at 2 or 3.

The celeb feedback was interesting, most of them saying that people complained because they bere annoyed that they fell for it!

The good thing about having E4 on cable is that you also get E4+1 which repeats an hour behind so you get Derren twice if you want to watch more closely the second time around.

Very spookey what he did, making the guy wake up in the middle of the video game he was playing.
