Hi!

I just bought a sponge ball DVD from Daryl (Essentials in Magic Sponge Balls), great DVD, but I wonder what grip the simple pass is in? It seems like his thumb is inward, so no thumb-clip. Also, he mentions that you as a performer should really believe in what you are doing, and some other good tips to improve the effect, but what would you say are the keys to successfully do this simple pass?

What would be good material to read or watch in order get a deeper understanding in regards to misdirection and psychology? I noticed he moved his hand slightly erratically, is this because the human-eye is even more attracted to sudden movement then normal movement? Also really impressed by Slydini' movements (who was mentioned in the DVD), are there magician out there who practice mime in order to improve there hand gestures?

There shouldn't really be a thumb clip, the ball should be held in a grip similar to the classic palm that you'd use with coins, it can take a little bit of work to master but is well worth putting the effort in to practice. Mark Wilson's Complete Course has got quite a nice section on sponges also get your self a copy of Steve Dacri's Spongball Toolbox. The Toolbox is probably one of the best resources for sponges that I've come across and has some great information on just about everything that you need to know. Another DVD that might be worth getting is The Worlds Greatest Sponge Magic if for nothing else than Tommy Wonder's brilliant routine.

Very much echoing the Steve Dacri recommendation - DVD plus all the bits for a lovely little act included in one package!
