Effect : The magician display's to coin a copper coin (old English penny) and a silver coin (american half dollar) showing both sides of the
coins very cleanly. These are placed in his right hand, the magician takes the silver coin and places it in his pocket and asks the spec what is in his hand. To the spectators astonishment the silver coin is back in the magicians hand! this is repeated with the copper coin. Then the magician
takes the silver coin once again this time very slowly and cleanly, yet still when the magician opens his hand the silver coin is left. So the magician the takes the copper coin and places it in his pocket and asks the spec what left, the spec says both coins. You then open you hands to
reveal nothing both hand are empty!!!

This effect is difficult to explain, please watch the video. This trick is a must for all magicians.

Comments : This trick blows them away, perfect for table hopping. With most coin tricks they ask to examine the coins but because you are left with nothing they can't. This is a very strong effect.

When performing, try to keep your hands more open than in the demo (no insult to Mr Magictricksshow intended).
You can use the finger palm hold on the coins whilst raising your fingers with your palm up to conceal whats left as you remove another coin.

When you get to the last removal you do not need to turn your hand over as you can work the last gimick as you remove the last silver coin in one move by taking hold of the edges of both coins as you lift reasing the copper coin before removing the silver take care to release gently other wise the clink may give you away. Also practice and remember the sequence otherwise you may end up with two half dollars at the end and no way to vanish them

hi all i've just discovered this site but already
spent a fortune. i've just purchased the hopping half and it's quite an impressive trick although i need more practise, could anyone give me any tips, loved the video display convinced me to purchase.

At first i was reluctant to buy this trick as one of the coins supplied was an American coin and i was worried people would catch on that they were gimmicked. It wouldn't be like british coins that are readily available to be switched, but the effect looked so stromg that i finally relented and am more than impressed it must be one of the most brilliant effects i have purchased and i can get round the fact that one is american by telling my spectators "Never trust american coins they are deceiving because....." then i go into the routine, by the end they usually agree.

All i can say gregball is keep practising it will come eventually, just have confidence in the trick. It can be a little noisy but i've never gone wrong with it yet and no one seems to notice.
the only other tip i can give you is if you have a video camera to film yourself and play it back, i usually do this if theres a trick I'm not confident with.

I do this this all the time and this trick is great for all ages. Before I do the last vanish I the last vanish I take the double coin in my right hand and say"If the copper coin is in this hand" close right hand open left "It can't be in that hand" close left hand open right to show silver "Because the silver would have to be in this hand" as I place thesilve coin back into the left "At this piont even I get coinfussed" then I do the final vanish

Mrmagic has it right. I have used this trick for a year almost daily. At times people would think they had the trick figured out, but if you do the switch from one hand to another it adds very good twist. Dont get stuck with the basic 2 coin routine. I have 4 very solid tricks I use these coins for. 2 coin trick, coin through bill, left hand to right hand coin jump using 4 coins, and a variety of vanishes. There are several different manufactures of this trick so just remember you get what you pay for. Last tip, practice over a soft surface. They cant handle being dropped on a hard surface.

One of the first tricks I purchased and one that I still use regulalry - blows their minds when performed correctly.

combine this trick with scotch and soda and you have a good routine that makes people belive your a miricle worker.
i think gold and silver is the same trick, also called sun and moon.
as for us brits, our diminutive coins are useless for coin tricks.
coin unigue is good but scotch and soda is better if you follow my advice about rigging them for kids.

This was one of the first tricks that I bought (about 18 months ago) and I still carry it everywhere with me. Great head scratching results acn be had by it!!

Hopping half's is the best coin trick I do. When you are working in front of Joe Public you don't do some fancy sleight of hand effects that can go wrong.

This effect is perfect for Joe Public and leaves them stunned,

I take out the two coins from a small plastic container and never have had anyone question the coins. They haven't come out of my loose change but nothing is questioned.

I've commented elsewhere on the forum about packet card effects, it must be what I say that effects what happens BUT I don't ever get challenged. When I get ellected to the Secrets Area I'll happily tell folks my routines.

And to me, that is the secret, what I say when I begin a trick stops queries and questions !! To me, the secret of performing a trick well is the patter used. I never mention the word trick to my spectators, ever. Its always a magic effect but never a trick.

Patter is the secret to all tricks, but my own patter I developed for Hopping Half's has never brought any assumptions from the spectators. Or challenges about the coins I use.

I too use Hoppin Halves a lot since I acquired by trade on this site. The ending of an empty hand has baffled everyone I show this to and it remains in my pocket at all times ready to perform.
