Hi all,

I'm getting asked more and more to do street stuff.

I do various card tricks with passers-by, including using a card duck which really draws people in - but am wondering what to include in a couple of new sets I'm putting together.

I'm fed up with doing card in cars, on windows, etc. - wish they'd never seen David Blaine most days and whilst I enjoy my escape routines (chains, cuffs, mailbag, etc.) I want to move away from what I do into a couple of fun sets (at least in the learning and practice & patter stages) for me.

Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

Have some gigs booked in July and want to have some more stuff in my arsenal.

Umm.. What's a card duck?

Personally, I would do some card routines. Then I'd finish "Emerge Triumphant" by Oz Pearlman. It's a great finisher - especially the patter for the routine.

I would stay away from the "David Blaine routines" because most people have seen it and it's just boring. I would stick to less known or even your own card tricks! I haven't bought it yet but it seems Jay Sankey's "Create Your Own Magic" would be a good start to doing something original.

Card duck is great for drawing a crowd and breaking the ice.

Basically - it's a wooden duck with card holder in from of it. The duck picks a crd and if you've trained it well, it is even the right card!

Blindfold the duck, people will tell you that you haven't cobvered it's eyes properly - point out that the duck is made of wood, bring out the patter and whoosh - crowd - laughter, job done - now get entertaining, or in my line of business - sharing the God stuff,

I have a "dippy duck" too. Mine was from davenports (in London) cost £69 and is marketed as the educated duck I believe. I use it in my kids show, she (called Vera Duckworth) plays happy familes.

The child picks a happy family card and Vera finds the rest of the family. Seems to get over the problem of small children not knowing what the cards and suits are in a normal deck.

Probably slightly off topic but It could be a way to change your current routine to attract a "smaller" audience (and less tiring than blowing up balloons)

I have used kids cards and also tried picture cards (and I don't mean K,Q, J!) but never thought of happy families as an alternative.
