Did anybody else notice The Doctor using a book test in this years Christmas special?

I just thought that was very interesting. Especially the reason he did it (which I won't explain... "spoilers")

They also kept referring to The Doctor as a magician...

As the seventh Doctor, Slylvester McCoy used magic several times. No reason why the Doctor can't include magic in his abilities!
