Create Your Own Magic (By Jay Sankey)

The Effect
From the back of the DVD –
“That’s the one question Jay is asked more than any other. And now Jay gives the definitive answer. Recognized around the world as one of the most creative magicians alive today, Jay is uniquely qualified to show you how to create your very own magic. Whether you perform close-up, stage, mentalism or children’s magic, on this innovative DVD Jay teaches you how to bring more of your SELF to your magic while discussing 28 key creative Principles behind unlocking your own unique “magic imagination.”

and a short description of the Bonus effects from me...
“Final Countdown” – A card at any number effect.
“Houdini’s Touch” – A length of string is shown knotted hundreds of times. You straighten out every single knot in one movement.
“Simultaneous” – A nice Do as I Do effect – This is the best trick out of the four.
“Inception” – A marked coin to soda can routine.

Cost

$25.23 = £16.77

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
To create your own magic, and express yourself through your magic – should be pretty easy.
The effects - 3=Some sleights used – but still easy enough to pick up.

Review
The Dvd, is in many parts just Jay talking, and sometimes it’s just voice-overs while watching a key image. However, this is an informative Dvd, and there are many principles, that are practical. Some I knew already and some, that I have started using, seem to work so brilliantly. You also get a poster, with the 28 principles listed, so that you can refer to them as you think!
This Dvd teaches not only how to create your own magic, but also how to bring yourself to your magic, through patter, etc…
The bonus effects, I thought were not the best material we have seen from Sankey, and there are only four. They seem to have just been thrown in because people wouldn’t buy it otherwise. I won’t be using these effects.
I was not sure whether Dvd format was the best format, for this type of information, as it is only a short Dvd (62 Minutes), but I did enjoy it, and I have started to create my own magic.

Overall
I have certainly learnt a few things from this Dvd, and I would definitely watch it again, to trigger my mind into the principles raised, about how to create my own magic.
If you’re looking for a Dvd with instant results, and lots of tricks and in built patter, then this is not for you. If you want to think about your magic, and about what you perform, and you want to add to what you perform, and maybe create some of your own effects too, then I would recommend this to you.
