At the risk of being unpopular, why is it that a lot of the acts, including magicians, seem to have to have an emotional sob back story?

At one time a professional performer was just that, they arrived did their act, went home and the facade never slipped. These days if there aren’t buckets of tears in the first 30 seconds it’s a rare occurrence. In some respects, any voting isn’t because of the act it’s because of the sorrows associated.

I suppose this is the result of the way society has changed, people follow other people on line and are deeply involved in their lives and personal events. Alternatively, it could be that I’m a miserable old git. Probably the latter.

I am just as miserable as you are Paul :-) Unfortunately, the sob story buys a lot of votes but I, like you, wish they would just get on with it!

A bit late in the day to mention this but to have five magic acts in the final was a great result! :D
