Richard Himber

Mention the name ‘Himber’ and most magicians would think of the Himber Ring or the Himber Wallet but Richard Himber was more than that. Those of you who get the Stevens Magic Emporium newsletters will know all about the Himber Upside Down Pail and the chance to buy one at $2950.00 – the sad news is that it’s now sold! There’s a superb video associated with it where Richard himself performs with the pail – see https://youtu.be/s2ARD1aVTnA.

The article, courtesy of http://www.stevensmagic.com is:
Richard Himber’s contribution to the art as a visionary is set in stone. Products from his line, or his famous book – that was so coveted in fact, it was counterfeited remain equally solid in maintaing and appraising in their value. Himber Upside Down Pail manufactured and sold by Danny Dew.
Watch Richard Himber himself performing the trick on The Don Alan Magic Ranch TV Show (in black & white) by clicking the link below:
Himber Upside Down Pail manufactured and sold by Danny Dew. The pail is spun out of heavy COPPER and CHROME plated with a round GALVANIZED bottom. The pail is 6 ¾ inches high and weighs 3.9 pounds. The removable pail bottom is galvanized steel. The pail was purchased from Danny Dew on December 6, 1978 and was never used. From Amsterdam, magician Ed Keener wrote in the June 1979 issue of Genii Magazine, “R.Himber called Danny every month or so to seek advice and sent him the first of most of his items”.

The pail is spun out of COPPER and CHROME plated with a round GALVANIZED bottom. The pail was purchased from Danny Dew on December 6, 1978 and was never used. Without a doubt, one of the most scare items ever offered by SME. So scarce in fact, neither of our magic curators had ever seen a pail in person. Watch Richard Himber himself performing the trick on live black & white TV by clicking the link https://youtu.be/s2ARD1aVTnA

Included with the pail is the original galvanized bottom which still functions with the pail. We are also providing the original instructions sold with the trick, and a cancelled check of the purchase endorsed by Danny Dew. The instructions contain 3 notations made while Danny personally demonstrated the trick and shared his routine with the original buyer. The pail is unused and has been on prominent display for 41 years. This goes WAY beyond rare – to extremely SCARCE. It’s a premium piece of apparatus and without a doubt possible the signature of any collection. Like they say, “Where Can You Find Another One?” And even if you are lucky enough – it won’t be near the condition of this one.

Harry Lorayne relates some great stories about Richard Himber. He seemed to be quite a character!

He did create a beautiful coin vanish that I learnt from Bobby Bernard more years back than I care to remember. It's very natural - but needs some work in its execution.

I've got in my collection (read - remaining tat) an original Himber Wallet - along with the hand-written invoice from Richard Himber.

Is the quality any good? Nope........it's bloody terrible if I'm honest! :D
