I saw the preview for this effect and was very interested in it, but as I am at a basic skill level right now would it be best to put my money towards something else or would I be able to get this and be able to perform it? Just PM if you have any advice on this. Any help would be appreciated!

It will take a lot of practice, as it is a tricky effect to master.

Yet it is achieveable (like a lot of things) with enough rehersal.

But to answer your question, its not really for beginners.

I agree, it took me about three months from when i purchased it to when I was confident to show it to people. Angles can be a problem, especially when the first peice is restord. I try and tilt the card up, and as someone said before, move back! The guy who reiewed this talked about ripping up train tickets. Thats a great idea except I live in London. Damn you Oyster cards! I might have to try that when I get out the capital!

Takes a lot of practice.

But I received the DVD about a week ago and the effect is absolutely amazing.

DVD is well made and Daniel goes through everything, he's a great teacher.

Gee...I bought this effect a while back, thinking I would be taught how to fuse cards together...haha silly me. Yup it's an illusion! :)
I won't lie, I was a bit disapointed. Also, I find my folds are kind of flashy...Any tips? please?

ban exposure from you tube!!!!

Postby Trickyfied » May 24th, '07, 16:05

I am soooo annoyed :( after reading this great review I did a search to watch the trick in action, I didnt want to rely on the shop's demo alone, I ended up watching some kid on you tube  Now I know how its done. Spoilt it! Still a great trick and I still plan on buying it. If anyone hasnt done so PLEASE sign the petition against exposure on you tube on this forum. 8)

As well as that, register with YouTube and mark all exposures vids you find as inappropriate, along with a reason. Wikipedia won;t take any pages down, so why not register and subtly alter the descriptions of any techniques you find. Just a single word will do

Torn by Daniel Garcia

Postby card_shark_2006 » May 29th, '07, 02:35

I just recently got this trick. I love it, and as I expected, it's hard. I'm not quite confident enough to show it to people yet, but I work on it everyday. I find that the hardest parts of the trick are the very first restoration and the last one. The first one because sometimes when I do 'the move' it either shifts the ripped piece, goes too far or doesnt go far enough. For the last move, I find that the angles are quite awkward for the restoration, so for that one I often stand back. I stand back for the first restoration, then walk back up for the second and finally stand back for the last. AWESOME REVIEW! Thanks.
(Note from Mods: Picture sig removed as it's far too large. 3 lines of text high is about right)

hi there. new to this website but ive been performing circus/juggling/magic for about 8 years. i personally didnt buy the trick or anything, normally i would but... im actually an old friend of daniels, we went to high school together. torn is an awesome impromptu illusion, i think it's worth paying for, i mean just look at the promo, that's hot stuff right there. i call it impromptu because the setup could be done in about 3 to 5 seconds. and yea theres no gimmicks whatsoever. without exposing anything, i'll add that even the setup could be done right in front of your audience, its very simple and could probably be done casually in your pocket or the like. well its possible at least. if you're in a pinch.
and yea you dont end 100% clean but... it doesnt matter just look at the diversion you create.

and yea whats the deal with all these 12-year olds on youtube?

It is a great effect that takes some getting down for various reasons. However, I do disagree with the post above!

If there are no gimmicks whatsoever then how can you not end up clean? Slightly misleading.

There si some set up involved that will take a couple of minutes unless you set up in advance or have some spares already made up but enough of that. You cannot make these under the nose of the specs!

The 'get ready' is done under the specs nose and yes, you don't end clean. This is an intermediate skill level and above in my opinion, demonstrated by the fact that you can see some of the reveals on YouTube etc.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

The setup cannot be done in seconds.. it takes a short while to get setup right, and if you do not put the extra minute or so time in, you will look stupid.

It isnt gimmickless and doesnt end clean, but clean up is easy and the small setup is worth it as the effect itself is very strong
