I must have approached around 12 restaurants over the past 48 hours, and not one has asked me to do a trick yet!!! How weird is that? However I'm beginning to suspect that my sales pitch might have more impact if after I'd introduced myself, I pull out a deck of Bicycles and say "Pick a card, any card..." and lead straight into a stunning trick. I think that might sell me better than any sales patter ever could! Yes - definetely try that Monday!

I have gained work in over 30 restaurants and have maybe performed as part of the sales pitch twice. You have to understand that while they may be entertained by some strong magic ( though possibly not pick a card ) they are not interested in magic, only what it can do for them from a business point of view. Your sales pitch has to be totally focused on that and thinking magic will swing it is missing the point. In the same way thinking all you have to do is entertain tables with magic is also missing the point. There is much more to it than that.

The restaurant want to know what it will do for their business. They are thinking of profits not magic. So what can we offer? distraction if the kitchen is busy and meals are slighlty late, adding value to the customers meal. They are being entertained as well as having a meal.

Magic is about the people as well as the effects. The way we interact with the clients in a resturant is just as important as what we do.

Thanks for your sound advice. Much to think about, but those thoughts are now clearer and more focused thanks to your advice. Will keep you posted how things go.

Perhaps a "tips on gaining contracts/employment thread" might be an idea?

Cheers again.
