Hi

To perform a thumb fan:

Hold the deck in your left hand.
The base of the deck should align with the top of your third finger.
The thumb grips the deck tightly along the bottom third of the deck.

So you have the cards in your left hand above your third finger with your thumb across the bottom third of the cards it looks allot like a downs palm for cards.

With your right hand approach the deck and the right thumb stretches out to the top left hand corner of the deck.

So you have your thumb all along the top left corner on the edge of the cards.

Your move your right thumb in a semi circle like motion while the left thumb grips the cards tightly.

The cards will automatically pivot under the ball of the left thumb and tadaa you have a fan.

If you find you are not getting an even spread change the position of your thumb.

Hope this helps

Dean

If it is a different style of fan you are having problems with please let me know and I will try to help

D.

Yeh That helps thanks. I got a better fan than usual, but I need a new deck so it might be that that was causing me problems

Get yourself a nice new deck of either Bikes or Tally's. You should notice an improvement straight away with a new deck.

I can offer some pointers on the pressure fan, but get yourself some new cards first, and then PM me.

My thumb fans just end up as 'blobs' of cards when I do them, never quite been able to get my head round them.

I have a deck of bicycles, but I know I definately need a new deck. I'm going to get a couple of new decks either tomorrow or Saturday. I'll PM you when I get them

Thanks

I found that it took my an absolute age to get the hang of fanning but it's well worth the effort. I agree that new cards work much better but after a while they will lose their ability to spread evenly, or should I say that you will lose your ability to spread them easily :?

At this stage I've now got into the habbit of adding some fanning powder and you can find a thread on this elsewhere. This works a treat for me.

Good luck

Yeah stick with it. I found fanning real hard for ages. The technique above is great. But in my opinion its unfortunate that its something you can only figure out for yourself. Once you find the 'sweet' point - pressure point' you will fan wonderfully - its just one of those things that will just click with practice and 'feeling'. Good luck

I just learnt how to do one handed fans and thumbs fans properly. When I say one handed fans, I don't mean the one handed manipulation fan taught in most places e.g. Born to Perform Card Magic, but the one taught by Jerry Cestowski in XB. Also, just learnt the giant fan. Can do it kinda well now.

My fanning powder just came yesterday along with my 12 new decks of Tally Ho fanbacks! :D I can say that fanning powder does help incredibely.
